CSM#206 : What does Denji!child represent ?
((((IM BAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!))))
As a child, Denji is not a symbol of innocence, nor is he someone who would be lectured to, nor is he his own childhood.
He is the symbol of Denji's guilt. Or.. Is he really?
More specifically, it symbolizes the very first choice that Denji considers morally reprehensible: that of killing his family, namely his father, a man who was nevertheless violent.
But in reality, I don't think this chapter confirms that Denji's morality is, in fact, wrong.
Twice he was questioned, but in exactly opposite ways.
The first time, his humanity was questioned and he was reduced to the status of a devil, even though Denji saved many people.
The second time, his demonic nature is ignored in favor of manipulating his humanity, because it is anxiety that interests the devil of the falling.
But why these two approaches ?
Because the devil of fire idealizes humanity and makes a deal with them to fulfill their dreams.
While the devil of the falling does not see humanity, she has not been saved by it; she ingests it and uses it as the breeding ground for the apocalypse.
They are both demonic boundaries, and Denji satisfies neither of them.
Denji does not satisfy the demons, and the humanity he saves only remembers his mistakes.
Denji has two choices for every action, but none of his choices will ever be right.
That's why it's the same boy who is used by the demons, one who loved him, the other who devours him, with no good answer.
Was this boy's life more important than that of the cat ?
Was Denji wrong to rush at the demon of the fall ?
Can one be moral when there are multiple possible answers ?
We would consider that there is only one choice if Fujimoto had created only one boy, but they were twins, and that face and body are used to tear Denji apart. That same face, that same body, that same universal morality is actually two.
So Denji does have two choices before him each time.
This explains why Denji cannot see what others can see, represent, and feel.
When Denji calls the demon of the fall, the chest woman, it's not just a joke. Denji thinks only with his senses, and those senses are those of a human and a devil.
So he will never make the right choice, he will never be quite the hero, nor the outcast
What this child represents is the choice to kill a father who abused him, who preferred animals to humans, and the desire to become Chainsaw Man, a devil to some and a hero to others.
What this child represents is: I don't know what else I could have done.
It is this child who sees motherhood in the devil that will cause him the most suffering
This child between the light of the city and the dark alley
It is this child who gave up his heart so that a demon would give him his
I may have failed, but I never betrayed my heart—it was in the right place, even when I was wrong.
For it is better to fall true than to triumph falsely.
But tell me... what becomes of those whose hearts are not in the right place? A demon's heart, trapped in a human body ?
