❝ we’re both people who have had to cut our own way through the world. ❞ from yuri
sell-swords commiserate through shared grief, though scarcely any will call it by its name. she learned this when she was still a child, not yet speaking but already training, watching her father dress potential recruits down to their scars. important in their line of work to test a man’s mettle before you leave him your back to guard, he said to her after one such instance, his eyes — and therefore hers, too — idly trailing after the newest conscript of their steadily growing group; a mage who looked closer to her age than jeralt’s but had been welcomed all the same. it’s a memory she was fortunate enough to keep.
yuri is one person whose scars she has yet to see. she wonders, then, if her hesitance to call them confreres says more about him or her.
“ my father said that’s how our kind makes nice. ” she angles her torso their way, one elbow propped against the bar counter, her drink momentarily set back. it can’t be all coincidence that they happened to find themselves at the same pub this far out, this late in. “ you point me to the path you had to cut, i do the same. ”
if you want a benchmark for my brainrot, my dear sibling riu has started. doing A Bit. whenever we mention anything. mainly whenever swords come up in any context whatsoever. she will get this shit eating grin. and they will say. "you know what else has swords. FIRE EMBLEM!" and then we both laugh like morons
and she will also do this specifically when we talk about fire emblem because i brought it up in casual conversation again
anyway yea since i can’t have a COMP in fe verse flynn’s gauntlet has a fairy possessing it that lets him use magic
the eastern kingdom of mikado lays, as the name suggest, east of ylisse cross a salt sea & miles of desert. their culture is heavily influenced by former ylissian settlers who once dared cross the water & sands to lay claim to mikado’s fertile soils. however, at some point in history, a theocracy emerged to take control of the kingdom, ruling in the name of a singular god. castes evolved from this society, separating the people of mikado into two distinct classes, the casualries; the smallfolk dedicated to farming and agriculture, and the luxurors; nobles who chased intellectual & holy careers. these castes were set in stone, impossible to break out of, that is, unless one was chosen to become samurai, the holy warriors of mikado. once a year, the citizens who reach their eighteenth birthday, casualries & luxurors alike, gather in the inner courtyard of the city, and undergo the gauntlet rite; a ritual to determine those worthy to hold the title of samurai. each citizen has their attempt, equipping the mystical gauntlet of the samurai hoping for a reaction. if the fairy inhabiting the gauntlet deems them worthy, the armour glows a deep green, identifying the chosen as a samurai.
Flynn was one of these chosen few, born the son of a farmer a casualry, he was selected to become a samurai, and thus was raised to the life a luxuror. he was trained in the art of the sword, and versed in the basics of magecraft. as a member of the samurai, his loyalty to the kingdom is unquestioned, and he is regularly sent on quests over the sea in ylisse to retrieve relics of the settlers who created their kingdom.
