I saw this post on Reddit. They closed it after only 4 comments 4 years ago, so I thought I'd respond with my thoughts on here!

Answering Fire Scrying Questions

Q1: Is fire scrying divination a closed practice that belongs to any specific traditions or ethnic groups?

>A: Fire scrying is not a closed practice, but it is present in multiple specific traditions / ethnic groups. Many groups perform it, from the Mongolians to some Native Americans. There are ways to approach specific cultural or traditional variations disrespectfully - and some groups may consider aspects of their approach to be closed in practice - but fire scrying divination as a general divination method is not closed.

Q2: Is fire scrying divination dangerous for novice practitioners (beyond the obvious fire hazard)?

Depends. Every "novice beginner" is different. If you're unethical to the Fire - don't seek to get to know it, don't call on it by name or ask its consent, etc - it may not respond to you, might even get frustrated. If you're disrespectful to any spirit you may try to contact with the fire, same deal. If you lack spiritual protections, could be problematic or risky. Sometimes fire scrying can trigger spiritual gifts you aren't ready to address yet, connect you with other spirits or energies, etc... Really there's a lot that can go wrong, but that's with any practice if you don't learn about it and have a set goal for it before attempting. As long as you do your due diligence, the chance of these poor outcomes occurring is low.

Q3: Has fire scying divination been helpful or successful for you?

Yup! I want to get further into it, Seeing With Fire is something I want to embark on, but working with Fire is great and helpful. I tend to lean not towards scrying most of the time, so I'm by no means an expert based on my minimal experience (aside from knowledge I possess), but I can confidently say I either have witnessed other success stories, know of them from within my culture, or have small experiences myself. Fire is a wonderful force who I love communicating with, and there's many ways to work with them!

Q4: Are there any guidelines for how to interpret what you see?

This purely depends on tradition. Some have guidelines, others do not, some have a mix, etc. Some of us rely on communicating specifically with the Force and energy work (that's what I do), or spirits in general (what I hope to do), some read candles (I've done it minimally before), others read the size / shape / color of the flame (I can do minimally), and so on. This just depends on your preferred approach. I'd say one of the most important things is to trust your intuition, and find whatever technique or practice resonates with you most!
