I’ll say this again – a major shock for me about Jim Steinman is that his flair for music didn’t end up on many soundtracks. Yes, his music would’ve fit many movies, yet I’m shocked he didn’t do many tunes for such purposes. Still, two of the pieces he did for this occasion were for Streets Of Fire and … that makes the most amount of sense for him and for that movie. The latter always felt like something Steinman would’ve done, had he been a movie director – he would’ve been an American version of Ken Russell with more operatic tones –, which means he doesn’t change his approach at all. If anything, I would like to believe Walter Hill modeled his movie around the compositions that were presented to him by Steinman. Seriously, that movie seems like a Steinman fan fiction despite Steinman hating the movie.
