uhh so a lot of america (and canada?) is on fire right now and since my state is well versed in how to handle this shit,
how to prevent, prepare for, and survive fire season:
go get a box fan and a cheap 20x20x1 furnace filter. duct tape that shit to the back and leave it in a high traffic area/common room on low. you’d be shocked at how much soot and ash it picks up.
get a solid set of blackout curtains. mine were $20 on amazon. they help keep the excess heat out of your rooms, by up to 15 degrees F
you need to have go bags ready, like, now. at least three full outfits and twice as many sets of underwear and socks. running shoes. BOTTLED water and easy to eat food. granola bars, dry cereal, etc. do not forget your medications.
same thing for your cars. bottled water, food, emergency supplies, a tarp.
turn and keep off any lights and electronics you’re not using. avoid overloading your homes circuit boards. electrical fires are becoming more common and you don’t want to lose power entirely when it’s over 100 (35) outside.
DO NOT IGNORE EVACUATION ORDERS. your belongings are not worth your life. if you really want to save things, plan to have space for it in your car when you leave. but do NOT ignore evac orders to go save belongings. i know how hard it can be to leave them behind.
DO. NOT. SET. CAMPFIRES. DO NOT THROW YOUR CIGS OR JOINTS OUT THE WINDOW. TIE YOUR CHAINS UP.
pack pet food, litter, puppy pads, and poop bags if you need to BEFORE you get emergency evac orders. put it in your car. put together a pet bag along with your human go bags. DO NOT FORGET BOWLS FOR THEM TOO. people always forget food and water bowls.
a dumbass’ guide to fire evac warning levels:
level one: get your bags together
level two: put your shit in your car, find a place to go if you can that’s OUTSIDE THE PATH OF THE FIRE. fill up your gas tank. prepare to leave at any point.
level three: get the fuck out, like, now. don’t think about where you’re gonna go. just leave. go anywhere. just get o u t.
stay safe. take your pets with you. do not risk your life or the lives of others to go back for personal belongings. DO NOT GET IN THE WAY OF EMERGENCY VEHICLES. i love you all.
