Adapting the Last Dragon Chronicles

When I was a kid, I read a book series called The Last Dragon Chronicles, by Chris D’Lacey. Of course, it wasn’t called that during that time. Recently, I picked it up again, and was surprised at how bizarre it ended up becoming. It was then that I thought about how it might be adapted into a movie or a TV series. I mean, there have been a lot of fantasy adaptations, some good, others not so much. This one could work, and I have some ideas on how.

For the first book, The Fire Within, I’d like to go the Once Upon a Time route and make it extremely obvious that the clay dragons can come to life. For example, the audience could see them moving, even if David initially doesn’t. There could even be a comedic subplot among the dragons, provided someone incorporates it skillfully and it doesn’t get in the way of the main plot too much.

The rest of the books could be more straightforward in their approach, and continue to make things interesting.

I’ve even come up with a couple of fancasts for some of the characters:
