Fic Summary: You were FEDRA’s rising officer in the Boston QZ. Tommy Miller was the Firefly you were supposed to kill - a fact you learned far too late.
Loving him felt like hope in a world ruled by fear, until the truth surfaces and you realize that this love might cost you everything.

Thinking about it rn, the show kinda made Abby's revenge a lil more justified by having Joel leave the nurses alive.
Because they were unarmed joel could've easily handled a scapal and just knocked him out but her shot him in cold blood without a second thought.
And to Abby this will just seem even more cruel even if she could see his side because it will show to her that he was perfectly able to not kill but he chose to, he could've not at any time kill someone who let's bfr wasn't really a threat to Joel that much.
Joel shot him because he didn't care about his life or what his life mattered to others just like how Abby killed Joel without thinking for a second what his life matters to others.
Idk though I just think it kinda seems little crueler because he left the nurse alive but killed her father. Maybe it will also make her think that he did just to be cruel or because he got a kick out of it or Smth.
Okay this might be a TLoU hot take that could potentially get me canceled, but anyway(spoilers?):
We don’t need to justify what Joel chose to do in the end of TLoU Part I, and it wouldn’t conflict with our love to him at all.
I should start by clarifying that this post is a response to the videos claiming Joel did the right thing, and Fireflies were the bad guys. Just so we’re clear, I’m not saying Fireflies were all saints and they served nothing but victims to Joel, because they were morally questionable as well. HOWEVER(in my very dangerous opinion), in this case it was Joel’s determination that should be focused on, not the possibility of a cure.
The thing is, whether a vaccine is possible or not, Joel would’ve done it anyway. If the vaccine were never meant to be, he saved Ellie(as well as his own soul by not repeating the tragic); whereas if it were possible, he doomed the entire humanity. But the point was he didn’t. Give. A. F*ck. To him only one option existed, and that was the first one, to save Ellie.
Now, was Joel an selfish person for choosing this? Absolutely, he single-handedly smothered any other possibilities out there, leaving the world only one outcome left, a world without a cure. HOWEVER, did this make him an unlikable character, even a villain? ABSOLUTELY NOT. In fact, I think this even made him a better, a much more relatable and likable character. Because he was us, he did what we would’ve do. He did what a real human being with a heart and soul would do. He saved Ellie, and that was the only thing that matters to him and us.
I don’t think Joel was ever supposed to be assigned as a hero or a villain(I’d probably even argue that he wasn’t an anti-hero either but that’s for another essay), and it doesn’t really affect how we would see him. He is Joel, we love him, and that’s all enough.
(To whoever has the patience to read all of this, thank you for bearing with my mumbling. Whether you agree or disagree with me, I’m just happy that I get to share this idea with you.)
