“....We’re not a couple?”
He’d really love to see the day where they didn’t have to force these conversations all the time ——— but until they reached a point where she wasn’t immediately annoyed by virtue of him asking if she wanted to chitchat, this was how things had to be. “I know you think it’s a dumb question, but I want to hear what you think regardless. If there was a time where you couldn’t use your gun, what would you fight with instead?”

“ You know you have big appetite, Shionne. Maybe it’s because of how much you use Astral Artes? Kinda like how with muscles you consume more the bigger they are? ”
He rubbed the back of his neck, wondering if it was rude to even mention it. All the Astral Energy stuff always went over his head until recently, so he couldn’t help but be just a bit curious. Who knows. Maybe it did work like normal muscles... Brain muscles? Now that was a weird image.

Kisara’s heart ached for Shionne, despite being a Renan --her life was no better than hers or anyone else’s in their little group. And she suffered something SO unique, something no one else could fully understand. It was no wonder she closed herself off from others. - --
“You’ll never have to worry about that when it comes to us. We’re here for you ... no matter what may come.”
She only wished she could give the girl a hug .... it wasn’t that she necessarily feared being stung by her thorns but causing her more guilt wouldn’t help make her feel better anyway ...
“I’m your friend ... and nothing will ever change that ... so I hope you can trust me...”

“ i don’t understand. exactly how lost are we talking about? ” | @firemaiden
"Like I said before, we aren't lost ———... we just... got sidetracked, is all."
Aye, the expected consequence of choosing to take the road less traveled instead of the one known as true; his (misplaced) conviction setting its sights upon a 'shortcut' that———as fate would have it———led them to a dead end of lush foliage and a den full of nasty zeugles.
Thankfully, no one stuck around long enough to be spotted and turn into astral chow, but in the hero's (panicked) attempts to rear his comrades back on the correct path... it led them right back to where they were. Twice.
All eyes were on him now, and not for good reason.
"...Listen. We'll be out of here before you know it, alright? If it helps at all, just think about all the food we can cook tonight from all the stuff we found out here. It'll be worth the trouble." Or, so he hoped.

Ethereal light blooms 'pon arms scorched from the heat of battle; mutilated flesh and muscle slowly piecing itself back together, bound by skin formerly charred and flayed all the way to the end of his elbow. Broken bones snap back into place, and he’s finally able to flex his fingers again without bending them out of shape even more.
When the light eventually fades, and her healing finished, it is as if he had never drawn out that flammable blade from the beginning; perfect, good as new. Once again, he was in her debt, for there was no other he knew that possessed such otherworldly power. Even if it was only to satisfy the conditions of their deal———in other words, a promise; thus, death was not an option———he still appreciated the lengths she went to in order to reverse his (intangible) wounds anyway.
Obligation or no, he liked to believe that she cared a little, at the very least.
Alphen was already preparing to thank her even as she’d already begun walking off in the other direction ——— but just before he could first tell her to wait a second, the warrior caught wind of something strange muttered under her breath; something hurried, and quiet, as if it was so very hard to admit out loud.
He paused, mid-step, and cocked his head to one side. Assuming his mind wasn’t playing parlor tricks on him, he could’ve sworn he heard the word ‘appreciate’ in there somewhere; a revelation that, quite frankly, leaves him without words. “Shionne... did you just...”
...Oh. Oh...! That was what he thought it was, wasn’t it? Her way of saying thank you, right? Strange, but he would not complain.
The man, though somewhat shocked, was still pleasantly overjoyed to hear it; rivaling the very sun itself for how wide and bright his smile became. “Well, you’re very welcome! I’m just glad you aren’t hurt. There’s still a lot of road to cover, so maybe it’s best to stay here before we get ambushed by more zeugles.”

@firemaiden asked: “Sometimes I feel like he does act kind of weird around me.”
“Well, welll ... you’ve finally noticed” Her tone was playful while she shot her companion a knowing look. “I’ll get right to the point, Alphen has feelings for you.”
There was no time for unspoken pining -- Kisara wouldn’t stand for it! “But, you’re smart -- so I’m sure you’ve already figured that much out. But I wonder--”
The guard paused and turned from her fishing rod. “How do you YOU feel about him? Do you return his feelings? Out of all of us --it certainly seems like you two are the closest”
