It’s really hard not to keep posting about our bridge project. I’m over the moon excited we are doing it. I’m proud beyond belief of the team and leadership and forward thinking from everyone onsite. Specifically Andrew Anderson. I like to say this is “Andrew’s bridge.” He deserves the designation as he has lost the most sleep about the details on this project. If you work with me. You know who I’m talking about. I’d tag him but he don’t play that game. Since 2006 Andrew and I have been making a mess and putting it back together. He is like family to me. Walking the site yesterday with Andrew was one of those moments you have as a business owner. Whoa. This is Jovick huh? We have come this far? Smile forms. Self appreciation. Chest pushes out. Reflections on hours late at night preparing estimate. Hopes and dreams we’d do this job. Now here we are. Doing it and doing it to OUR level. I’m tickled pink. Out in our “woods”... Fire Pink (Silene virginica L.) What a striking red!😍 . I had a nice read about these guys on the US Forestry Service website. Here’s what they had to say. If you’re not a huge botanical nerd like Jim, I threw in some {***”Jen words”***😌}: Although the fire pink is not large, it is one of our most conspicuous plants because of its brilliant scarlet or crimson color. The flowers are 1 to 1.5 inches (3 to 4 cm) in size with five narrow and distinctively notched petals. The plant is a short-lived perennial most often found in rich woods, rocky slopes, dry open woodlands, or meadows. The fire pink is a member of the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae). {***😱 whaaat?!?!***} Like many Silene species, the plants have sticky-hairy glandular stems, inflorescence {***fancy word for group or cluster of flowers off a main stem😉***}, and upper leaves. Basal leaves {***the ones that grow at the lowest part of the stem😬***} are 1 to 4 inches, lanceolate {***longer than wide🙂***} to spatulate {***broad to taper-Hey! I’m shaped like this too!😆***} ; stem leaves are up to 6 inches long, opposite {***directly across from each other🌱***} and in 2 to 8 pairs. The sticky substance acts as natural flypaper to trap smaller insects, which is the reasoning behind its other common name of catchfly. The brilliant flowers attract the ruby-throated hummingbirds, which are one of the primary pollinators for the species. The plants grow in size from 6 inches to 24 inches (15-60 cm). Although widespread, it is relatively uncommon and considered rare at the edge of its range in many locales. The species is available at many plant nurseries in plant stock or seed. .
