Fire School Day 3
Topics: Hazardous Materials Containers, Analyzing and Predicting Incident Behavior, Protective Equipment, Detection and Monitoring Equipment & Hazmat Decontamination. We had lecture for 5 hours straight. After, we had a more hands on discussion about ppe. Learned how to don and doff full turnout gear. Practiced a bit too. We have to be able to put everything on in 2 minutes. We even climbed the 7-floor drill tower twice with full turnout gear and SCBA packs (total of around 60-70lbs). We were breathing through our air packs as well. Let me tell you, it takes time getting used to breathing with the mask. You always have a half-second moment where you feel like youre suffocating because the regulator has to detect your breathing before it gives you air. Also when removing or putting on the regulator to the mask, you cant breathe until it is fully on or fully off. Im guessing its because im not yet used to putting it on and off so im still kind of slow but man. First time i placed it on, I panicked because I couldnt breathe. It was quite an experience. I had so much fun and Im so excited for next week. That drill run was also an eye opener, I definitely have to work harder in the gym. More stairs!!!
