@salt_lake_city_fire The SLCFD is with a heavy heart today. One of our firefighter/paramedics, Tyson Mason, died in a traffic accident. He was driving home from a flight medic shift with Intermountain Life Flight when a truck crossed into incoming traffic, striking Mason's car. Mason died at the scene from his injuries. A flight nurse was traveling with him and is in serious condition. As this occurred in a remote area of Utah, medical helicopters were dispatched. The helicopter to arrive was a Life Flight bird, only to find their patients were their co-workers. Tyson has worked for the SLCFD for about 2 years, and began his firefighting career with Ogden Fire in 2009. "Tyson was a young, professional firefighter and a talented paramedic. He was a devoted husband, who just became a father for the first time, only one week ago. He was respected by his brothers and sisters in the fire service and will be sorely missed", said SLC Fire Chief Karl Lieb. Tyson was well known and well liked by many in the Utah public safety community. His loss is a great tragedy for his family and our public safety family.
