why?
Because I had no idea what to draw.
Sometimes I sit a full day in front of a blank canvas with no idea what I wanna put on it. I have the desire to draw, just not the image in my head I wanna put on.
I see people struggling with drawing what they want to draw. having a clear idea what they wanna put on paper, but lacking the confidence to actually put it down, because “it’s not perfect”, “it could be better”, “I’m not ready yet do draw this”.
And that is a problem I dont understand. This is why we have sketches for, doodles of images that are incomplete, Notes and blueprints of future projects we want to tackle but lack the skill to complete.
But the Brain is fragile, memories fade, and ideas get lost by the simpliest of distractions. Write it down, sketch what you have in mind when you have it. there is still time to perfect it later on, later when you add in color and outlines, backgrounds and effects. before all that there is always the sketch, the malliable, disposable manifestation of your raw ideas, saved on a file you can visit again at any time, or on a piece of paper. and later, when you learned more, trained and improved your skill, you can look through your sketches, and find the ideas you still like, and finish them.
Especially in times when you feel stuck, and having no new ideas, it helps diging up those old ones, because they are still your ideas, and maybe that sparks back the memories and inspiration you initially had.
For this image: I dont like cars, I dont enjoy drawing those metal boxes with wheels, and when thinking of how a car is supposed to look like it’s usually the cartoon shape with the extended storage compartment in the back. But the point of a sketch is just to let your hand flow. And add in details after the fakt, erase lines, replace full elements, so far as to redraw the entire layout once again. it’s okay, it’s a sketch. not hours upon hours of dedicated labor on something that is not quite right.
I drew a car because I had no other idea what to draw, but I love drawing, so Idid a car. it’s not pretty, it’s not finished, but it is there and it’s my first drawing of 2018.
