Hello! I'm more of an amateur cosplayer who hasn't personally made anything more complex than a simple cape and hood, but the next character I have my sights on is Morrigan (specifically her design from Dragon Age: Origins) and I was wondering where to even start with her outfit? Thanks in advance! Your blog has always been a big help. (:

Start by breaking down the outfit into smaller pieces. What is involved with the outfit? Do you need to buy a wig? What might you need to mimic her makeup? Is she wearing jewelry, or is it attached to the shirt? Does the shirt look like something you could buy at a store, or is it entirely unique?Once you’ve broken it down you can decide whether to make the costume from scratch, buy the costume premade/from a commissioner or to alter existing clothing to make her outfit. You can mix and match these methods to make the costume easier for yourself. Once you’ve decided on what you want to make, figure out how to make it. Can you find a sewing pattern that is similar to the clothing you are trying to achieve? If not, can you learn how to create your own pattern? (look up pattern drafting and fabric draping to start.) You can also look at tutorials or ask other cosplayers for advice!Best of luck to you

I'm so excited, I finally got to order my first costume! It's pretty plain and kinda cheaply made, but oh it felt so good clicking the order button on eBay. I got a black cat costume, with a fluffy hood with ears, a bustier style halter top, a furry black skirt with a  long tail attached, and black furry gloves and leg warmers. It's not a character because I couldn't afford a wig and costume. But I get to go to Metrocon with my best friend and be myself and dress up like a weirdo and meet people that are like me. We always have so much fun, even walking around in normal clothes but what really makes it worth it is getting to go out, see how creative people are when they really care about something, and that really means something for us. Cosplaying makes it so much better because even if we aren't the best, we're doing what we love. Elizabeth and I go to these, and we always have an amazing time. Even when she had a sprained ankle, she put those wings and heels on and went around as female Castiel. She went through that, and we even went to the rave and had a blast. It doesn't even matter about only going for a few hours or if we're lucky enough to go for the weekend. This is honestly the most comfortable I feel, even in a room full of strangers at a convention. We only go to 3 a year, but that's honestly enough for me. It means something, slipping on that costume, making sure everything is how you want it, and at some point saying screw it because that one hair, whether a wig or your own, sticks out. But it's special because we can fangirl with people over shows and video games, and whatever else happens. People dance in the hallways. Flash mobs happen at least 4 times a day. People crack up at the panels. But that's what it's really about. Laughing and smiling with people you may or may not know, but people that won't judge you just for what you like
