And at last, the initial draft for Devotee is complete 😌 We might have gone off script for those last two chapters, and this whole thing was SUPPOSED to be like 10 chapters / 60k, b u t we at least have the initial version of the whole thing down.
...
And a few notes for one-shot (cough smut cough) scenes that got cut from the current version.
And now the editing can recommence (oh g a w d). BUT more importantly! .... n o w I can catch up on that last overhanging exchange, AND do something with Tangerine and Sergei my beloveds~
I finished writing the first draft of the first "Violins and Violets" book!
It's taken me 2 days to get round to writing a blog post about it (today is 15th December), but I actually finished the manuscript from the 13th of December, with 93,226 words in total. I wrote 50,120 of those words in November, and another 9,852 in December.
I have been working on this manuscript since the 31st July, so it's taken me 136 days. That's a daily average of 685 words per day, and there were quite a few days when I didn't write at all, But I am very pleased to say that I have written every single day since 31st October (inclusive).
One of the things I wanted to do this year was get back into a better writing habit, and I think I've managed that! It's been a very difficult year for a number of reasons, so I have also been trying to be kind to myself. I would have forgiven myself if I haven't managed to make NaNoWriMo happen this year, and I would have forgiven myself if I hadn't managed to get the first book finished and the second book started...
...but I haven't needed to, because despite everything, I have done all of those things!
Last night, the 14th of December, I started writing the sequel to "Ladies Don't Write Music". I didn't even take one day off! And that's not me being harsh with myself. I was so excited to get started on the second book that it would have been harsh to make myself take a break. I'm so excited about this story!
My tasks today, when I have taken a day off work as annual leave, are to write some more of the sequel, ideally about 1,500 words, and to plan it out properly with the snowflake method. The sequel has a lot more in common with the older drafts of "Violins and Violets," so I can probably just reuse the snowflakes that I used for those, and just add bits where I want to, but I still need to look at them.
The sequel doesn't have a title yet, but I am toying with the idea of calling it "Ladies Don't Run Away."
The manuscript for Changeling, Book One of the Fey Touched Trilogy, is complete at 108,623 words.
*Collapses*
Tiny sneak peek from the final chapter, beneath the cut
"I am a fey of Arbaon," Booker sneered, "I don't answer to you or your council."
It had been a long time since Lizzy had heard Booker utilise his court voice, and if the room had been coated in ice it couldn't have felt colder than his hissed words.
Turning, Booker looked over his shoulder at Walcott and raised a single eyebrow, "I assume our discussion will remain... confidential, Headmaster?" Booker all but demanded, and Lizzy watched the headmaster raise his eyebrows.
"Of course, Master Reed."
"Good," Booker said simply, before turning back around, placing a hand on Lizzy's elbow and marching them both out of the office without another word.
I still have to edit it but that just seems like small fries compared to finishing this first draft, so plz come be excited with me because it’s been a long time coming AHH SURREAL
my first draft is done... like done done (!!!) i just finished writing the epilogue and i’m really happy i decided to write it (no, i’m not crying 😭😭)
honestly, it’s nice to feel like the story is really complete, and i feel like it’s there now that i’ve added this extra little chapter :)
now its time to step away! i’m going to be away for the weekend, but when i come back i’m going to start editing my first WIP (Untitled-- i swear i’m going to think of a name at some point..), so i’ll probably start posting little excerpts of that on here as well! :)
happy writing everyone! xx
(p.s. thanks to everyone who’s sent me nice messages and comments and have just been amazing people while i was drafting this project! i love you all ❤️❤️)
The first draft of the third Shadows of Tomorrow book is completed. It’s just under 88k words and I just typed the final sentence.
This book features Gareth asking for help from the alternate universe double of an old friend, a universe with non-Eucledian geometry, and a tough, heavily-armed soldier being coaxed into reading a story by cute toddlers.
It’s probably going to need a major overhaul before it goes to the publisher because it gets pretty confusing in places but, yay, first draft!
I still haven’t settled on a title for it. The working title was Out of Time, but there have been loads of things with that as a title including several books, a song by REM, a movie, and an episode of Red Dwarf. I want to come up with something a little more original.
