a/n: hey folks! i’m back with a one shot for a character i’ve never written for before bc first kill has had me in a CHOKEHOLD👀it’s very rushed and probably messy but hopefully very cute! i hope you enjoy!!!
you had sensed a change in your friend since you started bringing your new girlfriend around. or, your sort-of-girlfriend. the two of you hadn’t fully discussed what you were, but the chemistry and tension between the two of you was undeniable.
ever since calliope burns stepped foot in your school, you couldn’t keep your eyes off of her. you didn’t know if it was her beauty, her confident demeanor, or her gentle smile, but something about her made you want to be close to her at all times.
lucky for you, your schedules aligned so that you had almost every class together, even being sat together in a few of them. this gave you an advantage in your mind, because it gave calliope a chance to see you as you saw her. (little did you know, her eyes had been on you from the start.)
the both of you relished in the stolen glances and shy smiles, which eventually turned into her flirting with you and you turning into a blushing mess. eventually, you worked up the confidence to flirt right back. you’ll never forget the slight shock in her eyes the first time you reciprocated her flirty banter. before the two of you knew it, you were talking and texting nonstop, both in and out of school.
but you had yet to label anything, so you couldn’t blame her when Juliette began to take an interest in the Burns girl. you began to notice how her eyes would travel next to you as you spoke to her, clearly looking at the girl beside you, or how she listened intently whenever Calliope would talk about anything at all. you even noticed some awkward attempts at flirting. (though, you had to say, if Juliette was bad at anything, it was flirting.)
but you kept your opinion of it to yourself. after all, the flirting between you and Calliope seemed to cease when you were around anyone else. it made you wonder if, deep down, it was just a fun game for her. so you kept your mouth shut at Juliette pined after Calliope, secretly hoping Calliope wouldn’t return her advances.
and that led you to where you were right now, at some party that Ben forced the group of you to go to. the only thing you were looking forward to was spending time with Calliope. but all that excitement of seeing her seemed to come crashing down when Juliette opened her mouth about the girl.
“i think i’m gonna tell her how i feel tonight,” she said with a somewhat confident smile, and you felt your heart drop.
ben smiled proudly, oblivious to your disappointment, and patted her on the back.
“that’s what i’m talking about, Letty! we need to get you some action!”
the two laughed, and you tried to force a chuckle, but it was anything but believable. luckily, the two were too busy talking about Juliette’s declaration of feelings to spare a glance in your direction.
you spun around to face those brown eyes you adored so much and almost immediately a smile spread across your face.
“i am now,” you said shyly, reaching for her hand. she smiled gently at you, taking your hand and running her thumb along the back of it. you stared into each other’s eyes, simply relishing in the closeness and safety of the moment you shared. until that moment was interrupted.
“Calliope! So glad you could make it!” Juliette’s voice made you jolt, and you tried to ignore Calliope’s concerned eyes on you.
“Yeah, I’m glad I could be here,” she replied distractedly, slowly dropping your hand. you took a deep breath, trying not to let it affect you.
Ben nudged Juliette towards Calliope, giving you a pointed glance to back away and give the girls a moment, which only made you feel worse. You took a step back, your eyes trained on your shoes.
“Calliope, I was wondering if we could talk?” Juliette asked hesitantly, and Calliope’s eyes finally met hers.
“Spin the bottle!!!” a voice shouted, effectively interrupting Juliette’s confession and gaining everyone’s attention.
“Talk later, yeah?” Calliope questioned before heading into the kitchen where the group was gathered. Juliette nodded hopefully as the rest of you gathered around the kitchen island where the bottle was placed.
Suddenly, Ben seemed to have an idea. “Hey, new girl,” he said casually, addressing Calliope, “How about you give it a go?”
You briefly met her eyes before staring at the bottle, trying not to think about her kissing Juliette, which was clearly what Ben had in mind. His trick wasn’t lost on you, he had played this card at many a party, hoping to get Juliette a girl to go home with.
Calliope shrugged. “Sure, why not?” She spun the bottle, and as it slowed to a stop, you were convinced the universe had it out for you, because without Ben even interfering, the bottle had landed on Juliette.
You kept staring at the bottle, not wanting to see the smile on Juliette’s face, or the excitement on Ben’s, maybe Calliope was even giving Juliette a flirty grin.
You were about ready to walk out of the party completely, when you noticed the bottle being moved to face you.
You followed the hand that had moved it in order to meet the eyes of the girl you had grown to care for so much. She had a determined look in her eyes, and a smile on her face.
You knew you should probably be concerned about the others in the room, or the fact that no one had said a word, but you couldn’t bring yourself to look away from those eyes. She offered you her hand, and almost immediately, you took it. Only, instead of leading you to the pantry, she led you outside and away from the party.
Once you had reached quiet, she turned to face you, taking your other hand in hers.
“Hi,” you said quietly, trying to ignore the blush creeping up your neck.
“I can see right through you, you know that?”
You tilted your head in question and she chuckled.
“It’s funny to me that you think I would want anyone but you,” she said confidently, and you were sure your eyes were as wide as they got.
you cleared your throat, trying to recover from her declaration.
“i mean, i just didn’t want to assume-“
“you didn’t want to assume that i would want to be with the prettiest girl at this school? the only girl who has caught my eye? look, Juliette is nice and all, but she’s got nothing on you, y/n. you hear me?”
you merely nodded, unsure of what to say or do. lucky for you, Calliope took the next step into her hands. she removed one of her hands from yours and moved it to you cup your face gently.
“can i kiss you?” she whispered.
“absolutely,” you whispered back.
she didn’t hesitate to move to you, brushing her lips against yours. you kissed back, enjoying being able to be this close to her. knowing that she wanted you and no one else.
when you pulled apart for air, you rested your foreheads against each other. for a moment, only your soft breaths were heard in the quiet night air. until her soft voice broke through.
“you are so beautiful, you know that?”
you smiled shyly, ducking your head, but her fingers were quick to lift your chin to face her again, chuckling softly at your shyness.
“you are! and, if you’re willing, i was hoping i would be able to call you mine?” she asked, a hint of hesitancy in her voice.
but you smiled brightly at her, kissing her chastely before replying.
“i thought you’d never ask.”
