“Your first projects aren’t the greatest things in the world, and they may have no money value, they may go nowhere, but that is how you learn-you put so much effort into making something right if it is for yourself.” - Steve Wozniak
When you do something you love, and put forth your best effort into creating something, that holds more value to you than money ever could.
The first few memories I remember from my childhood, are the time when I drew with crayon on the walls of my grandparents’ house when I asked my mom and grandma, while they were talking in another room, if it was okay if I could draw. They said yes, and so I took my crayon box with me, and stared at the blank wall which was like one big canvas. My grandma and mom found what I had drawn later when they checked in on me, and then they discovered what had happened. They actually weren’t upset, and they ended up taking pictures of my masterpiece of scribbles.
In Kindergarten, I made construction paper dachshunds with collars and leashes that mimicked the neon foam lizards on wire that I had seen at the zoo once. The leash was long and stuff enough that you could move the paper dachshund along the floor with its feet propping it up. Once a few of my classmates saw my art time project I had made for fun, everyone in my class wanted one. And so I taught everyone how to make one of their own, too.
And jumping to present-day, I started my very first blog called Quote and a Letter, on Tumblr in February. It was one of the most nerve-wracking things I’ve ever done, and writing in the description that I would choose a new quote every day and write a letter was a lot of dedication. There were times when I have felt uninspired, or had writer’s block. I find that some topics are repeated. And there are other times that I know how passionate I am about the quote, and the writing just flows, and I’m so inspired by it.
Even though my first blog hasn’t turned out quite the way that I imagined it would, and I’m the only one writing letters, I still feel so proud of it. It makes me happy, it challenges me to write, and reminds me that I can still be creative and have a life before work, or after, when I get home. I never imagined that so many people would actually be interested in this blog. If anything, I thought most people would just be intrigued by the quotes, but I’ve noticed there have been handfuls of people who have liked some of the posts I’ve taken the time to write, which means so much to me.
I hope that some of the advice reflection letters help someone out there. And that maybe this blog will feel like a friend telling their story, or giving advice when you need it the most. I’m definitely going to continue writing for this blog for as long as possible. Thank-you everyone for following and showing your support!
