Sewed my first skirt today. Pretty proud of it.
Roll up crochet hook case - Day 1
If you don't want to see this block #the saga of the roll up case
So I decided I need to make a crochet hook case because I'm tired of having them lying about. And since I'm a complete noob at sewing I'll make it as simple as possible lol which is just a rectangle with the elastic sown in
I don't even have a working machine so I'll have to hand sow it rip so if I'm doing something egregiously wrong pls let me know
Anyway the plan is to have the crochet hooks lying like so
And then sew two straps of elastic onto the fabric measuring it out and stuff obviously
Then iron (we'll get to this cuz I don't actually own an iron rip) the stiffening thing (I forgot what its called, the lady at the fabric shop recommended me to use this) onto it. Might not actually need it tho we'll see
then iron the calico on the other side just for some extra strength. Cut out another layer of the purple fabric and attach the ribbon before sewing all 4 layers together
So.. I decided to try my hand at making a hanfu inspired top. Not going for accuracy, just inspired by the historical/fantasy drama shows I’ve been watching lately. I’m in love with Word of Honor and League Of Noblemen. Those shows (and Untamed, Grandmaster etc,) made me curious about the time periods/styles. Yes some are more fantasy but learning about the dress and culture and then about how Hanfu is having a modern revival after being suppressed by the Qing dynasty is fascinating. Plus, how can anyone resist giant sleeves?
(Must admit the sleeve ‘corner’ is my favourite bit so far)
Did I mention this is my first ever sewing project outside of Junior School? 🤣 The reason I felt able to even attempt this is due to the style. Simple straight collar and the shoulder seams are halfway down the upper arm. Also no weird seam shapes, darts or gathering fabric into tight cuffs. Very beginner friendly.
Im so glad i never threw away all those little scrap fabrics and flat bed sheets even though i didnt know how to sew when i saved them. Bc now theyre finally being put to use and i love ittttt i dunno if ive posted about sewing on here but heres what i made about a week or two ago !!
Anyone have name suggestions?
Got a sewing machine for the first time so here's my first ever sewing project. I will master all the fiber arts someday.
It's still a little long but I'm leaving as is. It's my first ever skirt and has its share of flaws. Next time will go better. 💜💜
