Plushies aren’t childish. They’re nervous system care.
A lot of chronically ill and disabled people live in bodies that are constantly stuck in fight-or-flight. Chronic pain, fatigue, medical trauma, insomnia — all of it keeps the nervous system on high alert.
Hugging a plushie isn’t about being “immature.”
It can literally help regulate the nervous system.
Touch and deep pressure can:
release oxytocin (the bonding / calming hormone)
activate the vagus nerve
lower stress hormones
reduce anxiety and physiological arousal
make rest and sleep more possible
Weighted plushies especially can help when your body won’t calm down no matter how exhausted you are.
And yes — emotional attachment to comfort objects can continue into adulthood. That’s normal. That’s human. That’s how brains learn safety.
If something helps a disabled person feel calmer, safer, or sleep better, it doesn’t need to be aesthetic, adult, or palatable to strangers.
Comfort isn’t a moral failing.
Coping isn’t childish.
Survival tools don’t need permission.
Let people self-regulate in peace.

Oh yeah! My slug!
I was enamored by an image of like, a dozen arion ater (aka european black slug, black arion) in a yogurt container so I decided to make one (also joann's had NO grey or brown in this fabric at the time). I'd also felt that being able to put a big gastropod on my face might make me feel better during my migraines, so that's another motivation.
It's big and weighted, made of stretch/mochi minky and silky poly fil. I had to add the pneumostome 'cause I'm extra like that and have to make every project more difficult.
Its currently in need of repairs, as its eyestalk is coming off D:
