First Winner for the Late Brilliant Speed
Brilliant Speed was represented by his first winner Friday at Laurel Park. The juvenile Fly won a MSW event completing 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:02.87 under Jevian Toledo.
Fly is out of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Desert Stormer, by Storm Cat, and was bred in Kentucky by Avalon Farms, Scott Swaim, and Desmond Ryan. He is now owned by Dark Hollow Farm, Davidov, Davidov, MacWilliam, Teitelbaum, Wallace, et al., Fly was trained to the victory by Phil Schoenthal.
Brilliant Speed, by Dynaformer, earned $1,203,531 with three wins from 21 starts, including the Grade 1 Bluegrass Stakes for trainer Tom Albertrani. He stood at Three Chimneys Farm until his death July 17, when he was struck by lightning.
Fly sold for $80,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
