Henlo 💖 I would like to let you know that after all these years, I still think of Nanna Amell when I boot up origins. She and you truly left an impact on me, way back in the early days of DARP. 2013 and onwards. Hard to believe it's been that long?! I think I deactivated in 2015? Maybe 2016?

You were such an awesome Orsino that put so much heart into the Kirkwall scene and the depiction of the mage's conflict in 2, your rare aggro Hawke, and you did a lot to interact with the community, so don't think you didn't leave an impact as well! He’s always trying to get people to dare him to eat strange things. Roast deepstalker allegedly tastes much like pheasant. His friends have long since stopped ponying up money to encourage him, but their reactions alone are often enough to spur him on.

As a child, even when in the care of her parents, Emmailen had no chance of enjoying a plentiful meal. Food was scarce in the Alienage and although her parents did their best, they were able to provide only the basic necessities. After their death, food became a struggle, a vicious circle of stealing and using the stolen money for the good of all. There were good days and bad days, moments when a successful mission brought enough food to keep everyone sated and moments when none of the thieves in Rilla’s gang were able to score a hit, hunger being their only companion for the day. As such, even when food became more plentiful in the Circle Tower, Emmailen learned not to be fussy about food. If it was edible, it was edible, it mattered little whether it was gourmet food from Tevinter or dried meat portioned for the road.

Her favorite food is pie with cheese stuffing, made by the cooks of Vigiil’s Keep. It is the one meal that will catch her interest even in moments when she is not hungry, when eating seems more of a routine thing to do than something she actually needs. At the other end of the spectrum is spinach. No matter what others say about it being good for one’s health, Emmailen had never managed to learn to like spinach. She will eat it, if forced or if needed, but she will hate every single bite.

In terms of sweets she prefers light sweets, with fruity flavors. Anything drowned in honey or sugar will be too heavy for her, leaving her feeling queasy and refusing to eat anything else for the day. She will eat fruit tarts, strawberry shortcake or even chocolate covered berries from time to time. The sweetest thing she is able to successfully stomach are perhaps glazed apples and that is due to them being served in the Circle Tower, at meals, during Harvestmere. 

She has never eaten bugs and does not entertain the notion of having them as a viable meal. However, if push came to shove and she would have to choose between starving and eating them, she would choose the second option.

Food is the literal best.

Riley’s favorite meal, in every verse, is fried chicken. It’s cliche, because she’s from the South, but it’s just that good. She loves pretty much all fried chicken, but the best comes from her mom’s recipe. She makes it on cold, rainy days when she feels lonely and misses Kentucky and feels like she can never go back. And basically any time she can spare the time to make it.

She hates radishes. They make no sense to her. They’re dumb.

She’s lucky enough to not have any food allergies.

I think she’s a little apprehensive because she doesn’t want to offend anyone if she doesn’t like it, but she ends up liking a good variety of foods. Which is helpful, living in New York and often needing food (but not wanting to cook) at all hours of the day. In DA verse, this is more pronounced because she’s only ever lived in the Free Marches, mostly Kirkwall, and while she’s met people from all races, she hasn’t always sat down to a meal with them from their home. She’s just used to what she’s always eaten.

When it comes to sweet things, she likes the more decadent things, rich chocolate and fancy sweets. She’ll eat a Hershey bar with absolutely no complaints, but if she ever has a reason and the funds to have dinner at a fancy restaurant, she will pretty much have an orgasm over their chocolate cake or cheesecake. 

Of course she’s eaten bugs. She was a child at one point, and she didn’t want to seem like a wimp. Given the choice, she’d never eat one ever again, though. Yuck.

Scars are a staple in settings like Dragon Age. Warriors, Rogues, and mages, hell, ANYONE can end up riddled with them. But, not all scars have epic stories and not all come from magic or blades. Does Inara have any stories about a wicked looking scar with a less than epic story? How about acne scarring? Any scars from battle? If yes, does she wear them with pride, or cover them up in shame? Is she wary around someone who has a lot?

     Inara is certainly no exception to the scarring rule. She collects quite a lot of them, what with the Blight, and a less than “cushy” life before and after. When she’s a young woman getting into trouble, she has no healer to attend to her, so more things tend to scar. And though Wynne, and later Anders, seem to take care of her well enough during their time together, some things scar regardless. 

     From her childhood, Inara carries a scar on the inside of her left thigh. It’s an almost-nothing little mark, just a slash there a shade lighter than the skin around it. But it reminds her of terrible things. She doesn’t like to see it, and will get irritated with any lover who pays it any sort of attention, though she’s unlikely to explain it to them. She has often contemplated carving it out, in fact, but she’s never had the proper opportunity and can’t bring herself to do it just because; she’s not that big of a fan of pain. 

     Inara has many scars from battle - the most notable being the two jagged slashes that run from her right shoulder down to her left hip from the Archdemon’s tail whipping her butt(nearly literally). These she sports with as much pride as she can - they mark her as the Hero Of Ferelden, which she’s obviously pretty proud of, but they also remind her of things that happened during the Blight, both happy and sad.      Later on, in the course of Inquisition, she gets shot through the left arm with an arrow that pierces through her forearm and up, into her bicep. It leaves a neat little starburst-shaped scar on her elbow, which she’s fond of, but the injury leaves her unable to dual-wield from then on, which she isn’t too happy about. 

     Inara doesn’t have any acne scarring - her face was always quite lovely and clear. But she’s got a fair share of stretch marks that streak her tummy and thighs with lighter colored skin. She is quite fond of those, as well. She also sports a nick on the underside of her chin from slipping as she was climbing up the side of the house and catching the edge of a gutter to the chin, and a nick taken out of her right ear from getting nipped by a horse when she was a girl. 

     Inara doesn’t cover up her scars out of shame, persay, but most of the noticeable ones are covered up in normal dress. And I wouldn’t say that she’s wary of someone with a lot of scars, persay; she finds them to be rather like tattoos - points of curiosity. She doesn’t often ask where people got their scars from, but if they bring it up, she’s very interested to listen.

Thedas is chock full of racism, oppression, and prejudice. Has Emmailen ever experienced any of it because what she is, who she serves, etc? Is she inclined to be aware or ignorant to slurs and violence used on those who are different or towards themselves? Of the four races known in Thedas, which one makes her the most nervous or which is most shaped by racist opinion rather than interaction, or vice versa?

Emmailen is used to prejudice and oppression. Not because she is an elf, but rather because she is a mage; despite her race, her childhood had not put her face to face with rasism and prejudice, first due to a pair of loving parents that kept her sheltered and loved, and second due to the fact that as a thief she rarely interacted with humans that were not targets and those were lulled in a false sense of security by her pretty, child looks and fake genteel mannerism. She knew how to choose her targets and never approached someone who had the chance to turn violent on her if she failed.

As her powers manifested, things changed. Suddenly there was fear in the eyes of others, hisses of demon and maleficar, rotten tomatoes thrown her way as she was dragged from Denerim by Templars. Leaving the Circle, becoming a Warden and later a hero did not change much. There was always one to look at her side-eyed when she conjured fire in her hands, always one to toss a disparaging knife-ear her way even if she offered help. She learned not to resent them, but rather ignored them if the slurs were aimed her way.

Things changed when the slurs were meant for others be they companions, friends or strangers. Those who saw fit to antagonize people in her vicinity - elves, mages, dwarves or even other humans - saw quickly enough exactly why she the Blight was stopped in only one year, why her name stroke fear in the hearts of her enemies and even in the hearts of some of her reluctant allies. 

As for the four races of Thedas, if anything she is most nervous of Dalish than anyone else. In part because she still resent her mother for dying and seeing the Dalish does nothing more than conjure her image in front of her very eyes, stark and clear as they had she had left to avenge her father. In part because she knows how the Dalish feel about city elves and despite being a warden, despite slaying an Archdemon, she still does not think she did enough to prove herself to them. And part of her wants, oh so very much, to appear worthy in their eyes. It is a complex relationship of love and hatred, that leaves her reeling and shying away from contact with Dalish clans if opportunities present themselves.

Bethany has indeed experienced two of the three above (unless being from a different nation counts as racism) on a personal level, and experience the first via through others.For one, she is a mage. She could not have  a normal life because of it, and neither could her family. They took great lengths to keep her a secret and safe. Malcom Hawke had a strong opinion on the freedom of mages, which carries through to Bethany. In Kirkwall it was one comment after the other, on top of the abuse from Templars or Meredith herself.Even Fenris, who later came to respect Bethany for her skill, seemed prejudice towards her (BUT GIVEN FENRIS’S HISTORY THIS IS EXCUSED). In dealing with it, Bethany would either smile and nod and leave as soon as possible, or straight up tell someone to be quiet. Looking at Fenris (”You need to be quiet now.” is the nicest form of “shut the fuck up” i’ve ever heard.)There is always slight fear and alarm towards Qunari, due to the attack on Kirkwall. (She did have one run her down.)However this does not effect her total opinion on them. She believes everyone deserves a chance, and she gives it liberally. Not one person is the same as another, and acts of violence or cruelty done by one should not be the comparing points for any one person. In truth she is a forgiving person and herself could not be fueled on the negativity and horrible ignorance of racism that fueled Kirkwall.
