Summary:

On a few, select occasions, Henry has indulged Alex’s flirty banter, meeting Alex halfway with his own brand of dry wit. That is hardly advisable, of course, but Henry is only… well, not human exactly, but once upon a time he was, and sometimes he likes to reminisce about that. To recall what that existence had felt like. To watch a pretty young thing with a certain spark in his eyes smile victoriously when Henry admits he’s handsome.

When Henry lets Alex take him home, he thinks he’s the only one who’s about to reveal his true nature.

He’s wrong.

Henry opens his eyes to darkness and a half-remembered dream of Alex interrupting him with a kiss. He'd called Alex a menace at the time, yet as Henry sits up in bed some hours past midnight, he knows there will never be a day he doesn't miss any and all of Alex's cheeky interruptions.

Or, a Henry character study set during the week following Henry running from the lake house, loosely inspired by Taylor Swift's "Last Kiss". Written for firstprince week.

Firstprince Week entries for days 6 and 7, chapters 2-3 of my high school AU, are up!

Alex tried to get out of class as soon as the bell rang for the end of the day. It seemed that Henry was on to his strategy, though, because he was waiting for Alex when he walked out of the classroom. It seemed grossly unfair to Alex. After all, he was the one who had been attending this school for years. Shouldn't he be the one who was able to avoid scenarios he didn't want to deal with?

 

"What do you want?" Alex asked, impatiently. "I've got stuff I need to do." It wasn't even a lie, either. The Triple Threat Trio helped out at the chocolate shop a couple times a week, learning the ins and outs of the business they would one day inherit. Alex also had a job working with his dad's best friend, Rafael Luna, at the restaurant the two men had opened together when Alex's parents got divorced one afternoon a week. Between those responsibilities and homework, he really didn't have time to deal with spoiled brats who considered themselves foreign dignitaries.

"We need to plan when we're going to work on this project, do we not?" Henry asked in the snobbiest way possible.

Oscar sang quietly to the sleeping baby in his arms, the lyrics as familiar as his favorite soft blanket. His mamí had sung this lullaby to him as a child, and it had always been his favorite, even now. Both of his children might have inherited his dark hair, but they had seemed like precious porcelain dolls to him from the minute they were placed in his arms after their births. The only thing he had wanted to do from that moment on was do anything and everything to make sure they were safe, happy, and felt loved. 

 

"Buenas noches, mi muñequito," he whispered to Alex, who had finally fallen asleep, as he placed him in his crib.
