You want to innovate on something? Introduce faulty, damaged guns that jam, or the bullet explodes while still in the barrel(injuring the player), or does not fire at ALL.
Weapons found littered on the ground should not be immune to grenade, rocket, or airstrikes. Make the player think twice about picking up that rocket launcher that was just run over by a tank, and if it's even worth the risk of dropping your loyal pistol for it, only to blow yourself to bits with it.
