This is a fishtrap my grandfather made. It may be among the last on the planet and the skill to make it died with him. Holding it. Having it in my possession (only briefly) is magic. He was renowned for this design, which he adapted from the Carib traditional version that is popular on our island.
This is a model, made for preservation and decoration. The real deal is 3-4 ft wide. It's build for deep sea fishing. He'd go way tf out to sea, drop this down int he ocean using vines, not rope, leave a big ass bouy and come back a day or so later to collect hella fish.
He was damn good at it. And a skillful farmer and tailor as well. From the sounds of it, the man was always working.
I dunno how long these traps were made, but we're looking at something like 2-5k years of tradition that made its way to my family.
I'm going to reverse engineer it. I'm going to learn how to make it. Haven't figure out how to open it tho! haha
Anyone got any info or history GET AT ME!
