Day 11/14: My Night of Cooking Fish

I had a flashback tonight. But let me start three days earlier. 

And the story begins... 

My friend and I drove around Reality SF church in San Francisco at 10:30 am, looking for parking as service began. After 20 minutes of circling around the same 2 block circumference, it was time to call it quits. "We'll watch it online." We told ourselves.

Instead, we skipped church and went to Whole Foods where I bought a whole Cod fish, it included everything except the head, since well, seeing any face on my plate makes me lose my appetite.

Fast forward to tonight: I couldn't do it. I had a recipe, I was excited to use my crock pot, but as soon as I saw the big fish on my kitchen sink, I couldn't do it. I didn't have gloves so I grabbed one of the zippered gallon bag and put it over my left hand so I could keep the slimy wet fish steady as I alternated knives to cut it.

A steak knife didn't work. A bigger chopping knife didn't work. One of the square looking knives didn't work. I think that's why they have a filet knife? 

Longer story short - I pan fried it and it was awful, came out rubbery and had no flavor! 

I tried to it, but couldn't. I gave a sincere effort and I do feel absolutely awful for wasting food. I ended up tossing it in the trash, washing the dishes by hand 3 times, then running the dishwasher twice to get rid of the fishy smell. Cleaned all my counters, opened every window, and lit every candle. 

Then cooked eggs for dinner. 

So, next time I say I want to cook fish outside of a seared salmon and tuna, stop me.
