DEAD ON YOUR FEET | Leo Fitz | Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D | Whumptober 2022
Day Four: Waking up disoriented ( i realise this was posted early )
Everything hurt.
That was the first thing that she noticed when she woke up. Everything fibre and molecule of her body hurt. But that was a good sign, mostly, as it meant that she wasn’t so injured that she had lost a limb or somehow paralysed in the pocket of time she had lost.
The room gently spun as she moved her head to the side so she could see the room.
Seemingly seconds had passed since she ordered a pie to share with Fitz to waking up alone. The room was large with all of its surfaces made of metal. She supposed most of it was steel, copper and iron but some of it looked like it hadn’t come from Earth at all.
The purple hue the metal held captivated her attention. She hadn't seen anything like that in all of her years in S.H.I.E.L.D but she knew that foreign objects weren't her specialty. Daring to stand up, Y/N balanced herself to avoid falling down again and moved alongside the walls, keeping her hand trailing on the surface as she explored the room.
It was filled with tubes and containers connected to control panels. It was almost the spitting image of the lab that her and Fitzsimmons shared so many nights in.
Fitz.
He hadn't even crossed her mind. Chalking the lapse on the nausea she still felt, she set out to look for him. She kept her hand on the wall as she moved towards what could only be a archway leading towards another darkened room.
"Leo?" She spoke, trying to be as loud as possible without alerting her position to anyone else. "Leo? Are you her-?"
She recoiled back as a hand clamped over her mouth. She struggled to breathe. Moving quickly, she rammed her elbow into her restrainer. Turning, she reached for her gun holster to find it empty.
"What the Hell!?" A familiar voice said. Daisy.
"Shit- I'm so sorry, I didn't hurt you too much did it?"
Daisy chuckled, wiping dust from her arms as she led the two of them through the archway and towards a more brightly lit room. "I'll live. I'm glad we found you. Jemma was freaking out when you and Fitz weren't with us. Speaking off..."
Y/N just shook her head at the silent question. Fitz wasn't with them. He wasn't with anyone.
"Oh."
"He'll be fine though." She said, more to herself than Daisy. "He had to be."
Masterlist | Whumptober 2022 Masterlist | Buy me a coffee?
Prompt: You know, you don’t have to be embarrassed or ashamed around me. I like you for who you are.
Fitz x reader
You were smart—number 16 in your class. You were in honors and advanced placement classes; your strong suit was math and science. You didn’t score high on your calculus and physics AP exams, but you were an ace at biology and chemistry. You continued your studies in college. Of course, that was a long time ago, so when you met your now-boyfriend and his partner in crime, you didn’t understand much of what came out of their mouths. It was frustrating. However, Fitz liked you anyway. You wormed your way into his life and he accepted you. It took some time to get over your mutual shyness before becoming a couple. You never had a real boyfriend, so you weren’t exactly in the know when it came to navigating relationships.
You decided to go back to your roots and refresh your brain. You bought some college text books and ol’ reliable index cards, nostalgic for the days when you used them to pass every class. You hunkered down in your bunk and got to work. You kept it quiet, too embarrassed to tell Fitz about your latest venture.
You had to leave at the crack of dawn for a brief mission with a small crew. It was something simple enough for a fairly new member of Daisy’s Inhuman squad to tackle. Fitz was searching for his girlfriend, but found an empty room. Strewn about your bed were open books and dozens of index cards. He flipped through them, impressed with the level of detail you put into cell diagrams, molecules, and chemical formulas. “I didn’t know your handwriting could be so neat.” He chuckled.
You returned to The Playground satisfied with your work. “Oi, y/n.” You smiled, excited to see those bright blue eyes. “Why didn’t you tell me you were leaving?”
“You were asleep.”
“But you could’ve told me last night.”
“I guess it never occurred to me. Sorry.”
“What are you studying?”
“What?”
“I saw the books on your bed. Anything I can help with?”
“No. And it’s nothing. Mind your business.” You stormed off in a huff, leaving the poor engineer puzzled by your behavior.
“Y/n,” he called, but stopped himself, knowing you well enough to leave you be. If you didn’t want to talk about something, he respected that, especially if it upset you. But what were you so mad about?
Later, Fitz entered to your room to inquire if you wanted to accompany him for dinner. He noticed your books and notes were in the wastebasket and frowned. He knew where you were hiding. Whenever you got upset, you ran straight to the firing range.
You emptied your magazine into the target and removed your earmuffs in time to hear familiar footsteps walking behind you. Unable to face him, you took a breath and closed your eyes.
“You know, you don’t have to be embarrassed or ashamed around me. I like you for who you are. And, that we have things in common and understand each other. At least I thought we understood each other.”
You sighed and spun around, ready to spill your guts. “Yeah, but I could have been so much more, Fitz. I was really smart, not as smart as the great Fitz-Simmons or the other SHIELD cadets, but I could’ve done more. I could’ve majored in biology or been a geneticist like I wanted to. I was scared to go to a university with giant lecture halls away from my family. So I went to stupid community college on a career track that I learned to hate. Even my master’s degree means nothing; never used it. Waste of money. Stupid college and stupid internship. My whole life is a waste of time.”
“Don’t say that. Everything you’ve done lead you here and I’m grateful for that. If you want to study science, do it for yourself, not for me. I’m happy with you the way you are.” You were taken aback by his remark. No one had said that to you before. You felt a twinge of guilt for your behavior toward your boyfriend.
“I’m sorry I yelled at you, Fitz. It’s just easier to yell at someone or punch something than be vulnerable, especially in front of you. I want to be my best around you, because you’re so great. I guess…I wish I was like you and Jemma,” you confessed. “I used to be the smartest person in the class. When I met you, I thought, ‘Great, I know science too,’ and then I realized, ‘I have no idea what he’s talking about.’ I was hoping to bond with you over your work but that didn’t happen.”
“We still got together, right? We bonded over other things. Your mother, my father. Anxiety and insecurities. Stupid jokes that no one else finds funny.” Your face brightened. “There’s the smile I love. That’s what attracted me to you.”
Your heart swelled at his comments. “I guess I don’t have to relearn those things.”
“Only if you want to. I’m here if you ever have any questions.”
“Thanks.” You stepped to him and kissed him to show your appreciation.
“I’m sorry if I blew you off before about my whereabouts. I didn’t think I had to tell you.”
“You don’t, but it would have been nice to know. I tell you where I’m going.”
“You don’t have to. You don’t need some nagging girlfriend asking about your whereabouts.” The annoyance in his face halted your diatribe. “Fine,” you conceded. “I’m still trying to figure out how to be a good girlfriend, you know, with communication and all.”
“It’s OK, we’re both new to this.” He changed the subject. Do you want to get dinner?”
“Sure,” you replied.
As you both walked away, Fitz was curious about something you said. “You wanted to be a geneticist, y/n?”
“Well, it was my favorite unit in bio, and I liked drawing Punnett squares.”
It had been a few days since you crooked off the husk, and you were still trying to get a hang on your powers.
When you first woke up every single computer busted.
Every single one.
The whole science department was trying to find a way to help you control your powers, and you were currently trying out Fitzsimmons’ newest invention: a set of glasses for you to measure the electronic signals so as to not make everything go boom.
“How about now,” Jemma asked, making some adjustments in the glasses.
You winced at the change in the calibration, “It’s definitely different.”
“But is it better?” Fitz chipped in.
“I- I don’t know. Hold on,” you said pointing your hand at one of the computers.
It was working better than before, but it still wasn’t perfect.
You groaned as the computer shut itself off once again.
“Hey, it’s okay,” said Fitz while rubbing your back. “It’s okay, it’ll work. We just need to make a few more adjustments.”
“And what if that doesn’t work, what if I never get to control this.”
“Don’t think that, y/n,” started Jemma. “Remember when Daisy first got her powers?”
“Yeah.”
“She couldn’t control it either but with time…”
“...and help, she could do it perfectly,” finished Fitz. “You just need more time, y/n.”
Summery: After your brother, Ward, gave Fitz some encouragement to confess his feelings for you, the scientist has come up with a plan on how to make the moment memorable.
A/N: Casually wrote a part two in record time thanks to the encouragement @hannahneedstocalmdown left on part one.
[Pt 1] [Pt 2]
You dodged another punch from your brother by ducking under his arm, getting in a couple good jabs to his side as you did. Unfortunately, it didn’t take him long to regroup and do a complicated move that had you pinned before you could even think about countering. After making sure there was no way for you to break the hold, Grant hauled himself up and pulled you up with him.
“That was good. Just have to keep working on your reaction times.” Grant barely sounded winded. “We can work on it tomorrow. I’m calling it a night.”
“Really?” You questioned, taking big gulps of breath yourself. Sometimes it irked you how rarely training seemed to effect him.
“Really. You’ve been working hard and we don’t get much time off from missions. I think you’ve earned some rest time. Besides, Fitz said something about waiting up for you.”
You launched yourself at your brother, wrapping him in a sweaty hug and babbling out a thank you before turning and taking the stairs two at a time. The only thing you could think about while training was finishing so that you could spend some more time with Fitz. You just hoped Grant was right and Fitz had waited up. When you rounded the corner to the living area of the Bus you heart dipped. The chess board was still set up, but Fitz was nowhere to be seen. He hadn’t waited up for you. You would have been lying if you said you weren’t disappointed, but there was no sense in stewing over it. Frankly, you were sweaty and hungry and just wanted to wash up.
Twenty minutes later, you were feeling clean and cozy and starving. You pulled on one of Grant’s old Academy hoodies and padded out to the kitchen, reminiscing about a gelato shop you had been to in Italy, only to stop short when you caught sight of a certain scientist sitting in front of the chess board.
“I thought you had gone to bed.” You hoped the grin that was growing on your face didn’t betray how pleased you were to see he had, in fact, waited up.
“I was waiting for you so we could play that next match.” He explained while fidgeting with the cuffs of his sweater. “I have a feeling I’m going to like how the match goes this time.”
“Oh yeah? Well you’re on.” You said while quickly rummaging around the kitchen for some pretzels. “What’s your bet?”
“I was thinking of playing for something other than sweets this time. Loser has to tell the winner something they’ve never told anyone before.” He had thought it over a lot and had decided this was the best way to tell you. If he lost, he wouldn’t be able to chicken out. He hadn’t quite thought about what would happen if you lost, but given the outcome of the last few matches, he was confident in his ability to lose to you.
You thought on the proposition for long enough to fill a bowl with pretzels, walk slowly to the living area, and settle down on one side of the board, which was sitting on a small tray the two of you had put between your spots on the couch.
“Alright, I’m game. White moves first.”
Fitz nodded and moved his first piece before looking to you with a glint of defiance. The match went by slowly, both of you taking your time to analyze the board before moving your pieces. Some banter was traded and at one point Fitz got up to fill the now-empty pretzel bowl with popcorn. Both of you could tell that the game was drawing to a close and Fitz began to fidget more than usual with anything in his reach. The current victim and pawn that you had sacrificed early on.
“Worried you’re going to lose and have to spill a deep, dark secret?” You taunted him playfully, throwing a couple pieces of popcorn at him.
“Why would I be worried? I’m the one who suggested this.” Fitz scoffed unconvincingly, “Besides, I believe I’m the one winning right now, so you’re the one who should be worried about spilling a secret.”
“I guess you have me there.” You said while moving a bishop.
“That I do.” The comment held an understanding and sense of finality that said neither of you would talk until the game was over. Both of you were far too invested to make conversation now.
Thirty minutes and a couple moves later, both of you were staring at the board, you smugly and Fitz disbelievingly.
“Stalemate.” He muttered, looking like he was going back over everything that had happened over the past two and a half hours.
“That it is. So since neither of us won, I guess we both technically lost too. Meaning we both tell a secret.” You explained while scooping up the pieces and putting them away with a clink every time one landed in the box.
“Okay, um... right. I suppose-I mean I should... go first.” Fitz shifted around nervously, crossing and uncrossing his arms, finally landing on picking at his sweater again. “I like you, (Y/N). Have from the moment you stepped foot on the Bus. I-well-I never thought that I could meet somebody as gorgeous and clever as you. Much less someone as kind.”
With one last clink of the chess pieces, you put the tray away and beamed up at Fitz, a giant grin on your face. “Guess it’s my turn. I like you, Leo. Have since I saw you tinkering with the night night gun my first day onboard. Meeting you was one of the best things that has happened to me since joining S.H.I.E.L.D..”
Ward had told Fitz that his feelings for you were requited, but hearing it from your lips was something entirely different. He shifted closer to you now that the board was out of the way, one thing on his mind, but stopped short when you looked up at him guiltily.
“I have to admit something else, though.”
“Okay.” Fitz could feel himself beginning to hold his breath in preparation for whatever you were going to say.
“I threw the match so that I would get a chance to tell you how I felt.” You glanced up to see Fitz’s mouth quirk up in a smile at the same time he let out a breath. He had been expecting something far worse, like you admitting you had ties to Hydra or something.
“I think I can live with that. Could I...?” He trailed off, leaving the unvoiced question linger in the air, but you didn’t need him to put it into words to know what he was asking. You nodded and began leaning towards Fitz, your head cocked to the side. Only five inches away. Three. One.
“Well it took you two long enough. But you’ll have to save it for later. We have a mission.” The two of you sprang apart at hearing Coulson’s voice, both of your faces growing increasingly red when you realized that he had walked in on what was about to be your first kiss.
Coulson was standing in front of the main display screen with May, Jemma, Skye, and Ward trickling in behind him. You shifted uncomfortably as each person gave you and Fitz looks of approval, feeling like a beetled pinned behind glass. Their little procession ended with your brother nodding at Fitz, some silent understanding passing between them.
“The Hub wants us in Nevada for a possible 0-8-4.” Coulson began to explain.
As you and Fitz tried to pay attention to your boss, you felt a weight settled on your hand as Fitz entwined your fingers together. Both of your minds were racing with everything that had just happened. Fitz had made his moves and you had made yours. You may have both lost in a stalemate, but who cared about a lost game of chess when it lead to holding the hand of the person you had been dreaming of from the moment you laid eyes on them?
Drabble 6: Leo Fitz and prompt 87 from here: ‘I love your voice.’
Summary: Fitz is working late in the lab. You’re keeping him company despite how tired you are.
Warnings: None
Words: 100
He’s rambling on about something scientific you don’t really understand again. Suddenly, Fitz stops and turns to gaze over at your tired form, and softly addresses you, ‘You need to go to bed; you look shattered.’ He goes to leap up but as he does you reach out grabbing his arm with surprising speed for someone so sleepy. You drag him back into the chair as you force your eyes open and his eyebrows furrow.
‘I don’t wanna go to bed yet,’ you somehow stumble out, ‘I love your voice.’
He laughs at that and mutters an alright in response.

Imagine: Having a daughter with Fitz in the real world but he doesn’t know about both of you in the framework and you try to convince him that this is a fake world.
You nodded and wanted to push her in the portal but you heard a gun click behind you and turned around.
You:"Fitz?"
Fitz:"Agent Y/L/N. You killed my father. For that I'm going to kill you!"
You:"I'm sorry, but he made you to this monster. I couldn't..."
Fitz:"You took him from me and you tried to kill the woman I love! They're all I have!"
You:"You and her are all I have."
You nodded at Y/D/N who was holding your hand and looked at Fitz with wide eyes:"Daddy?"
Fitz frowned but shook his head as if he wanted to throw his line of thoughts away and looked back at you.
You took a step towards him:"Please. I love you!"
He shot you in the leg. He really did. You sunk to your knees and Y/D/N cried out.
Fitz stood over you and pointed his gun directly at your head:"You mean nothing to me!"
You:"Go on. Kill me in front of our daughter."
