No but it’s based on D&D alignment chart, where left/right and top/bottom are opposites. Like, that is its origin, that’s how that kind of chart works? And in making this meme, they have removed it from it working that way.

Lol it's super interesting hearing about US studies from outside the US. For some reason I didn't think that would be that common.

See, that’s weird to me, cause I’ve been learning about the US since 4th grade.

English is a mandatory second language in school here for grades 4-10 (or 13 in most cases). Part of that is also learning about the culture and history of English-speaking countries. (US, UK and AUS primarily.)

I’m taking college-level English this year so that I can teach English. The four classes involved in it is “USA - culture, literature, history”, “UK/commonwealth - culture, literature, history”,  “English language and communication”, and “English literature and film”.

As someone whose primary knowledge of the US comes directly from American media, experiences shared to me by Americans, and my own experiences as a visitor, it’s really interesting for me to discuss the US in an academic setting too.

Some of the subjects covered in our first lecture:

- Brief intro of history the US independence and presidents - American regions (not just stuff like “midwest” but also bible belt, corn belt, deep south, etc) - Discussion of unifying vs divisive factors (race, religion, class, media, gender, language, patriotism) - Definition of American culture  (and WASPs)

Unrelated sidenote: I just realised I wrote “JFC” instead of “JFK” in my notes. Sidenote #2: Got my teacher to mention transgender people (in the miltiary) in the first lecture so that’s a win. Sidenote #3: The fucking confederate flag is actually really popular here among the veteran car owners???
