"Whatever I need to be," Pippa answered without thinking. It was true; for all the bad things, she had learned that it was best to be whatever she need to be in order to get what she wanted. She smiled again, flicking her wrist and the bag of gold danced another foot towards him. She leaned back lazily against the top step of the porch humming.

"And that might be true, but I plan to be long gone before we ever get to that point."

She wasn't sure she'd ever said anything quite so honest to a stranger before; she had even told Boss as much. He'd told her the last time she'd stayed over, feeling particularly vulnerable after a fight with her sister three or four months ago that she wanted to slip away when her time was over. Find a quiet life. He'd said that was a waste of her talents and offered her a much easier time out of her contract, but she wasn't interested in anything he had to offer. Instead, she'd slipped away, constantly walking that balance between flirting with trouble and giving it an easy path to her hand. She'd come rather far from the meek little girl she'd been. The redhead had always had talent, but it wasn't until she'd started taking things, selling things that she realized just how strong and valuable she was.

"Well," she said flicking her wand again, still unruffled. Pippa shifted in her seat and her skirt moved up another inch as it had the time before and the time before. She made no move to adjust it; it hadn't been on purpose, but she also wasn't doing anything to prevent it from happening. "You'll be glad I'm such a tease the first time you need me along on one of your little rendezvous."

Pippa heard him but simply flipped her hair over the shoulder, sending a twinkle into the air. She felt deep into her and pulled out her Veela strings. She hadn't practiced for awhile outside a job, and what would it hurt. It was obvious to tell that he was sore, feeling bad about something. She wasn't sure what, but her tea was, pardon the pun, magical. She'd been creating her own brew for years, jokingly calling it's Witches Brew, but it was certainly magical. It made her happy. It made other people happy.

She waved her wand and the kettle began to fill, moving over the fire. Tea saucers and cups flew to the table along with biscuits and jams. Sandwiches began to assemble.

"I wasn't thinking a tea party exactly," she said. "I was just thinking since we have the same boss, it might do us some good to have tea." She waved her wand again and from the cupboard, out of the safe, flew the bag of galleons.

"You can take that if you want," she said with a flourish, her shoulder dipped and her cardigan slipped off her shoulder, revealing bare skin. The light lace of her strapless top a top a fluted tulip skirt with small netted back seam stockings and a low heel. She wished she had on higher heels, but she wasn't working.

"But who will help me finish this spread?" she said the baking suddenly done and tea assembled. Another wave of her wand and a lovely melody played from the phonograph.

He understood owing someone as to constantly be a reminder that one was down on their luck, one was below others, but he had an assignment to cross off his list of duties. Collecting was a specialty of his, as Christopher came to realize as each day of the year had passed him. His animagi status influenced his place with in the group, he knew; intimidation was a strong suit in the line of work. Most would call it cold, devilish, animalistic. Him? The warm blood and thick fur of his current dark chestnut appearance veiled such stereotypes as he roamed through the trees, mud, and creatures. Step by step, paw after paw, he scratched the cool earth as he made his way toward the small home. Hot breath steamed through the air as he slowed gait and neared the door. A chilling song of barks began as he paced the yard, calling the client to answer the door. An alert of sorts, that the monthly deadline had arrived.

None of these were the words that Christopher chose to utter to the redhead. Instead, a mere question had her shaking inside.

Her initial reaction was how the hell would she know. Because really, she was grateful here. Grateful to him. It seemed imprudent, or somehow wrong, to ask for or want more than what he was already giving her. And yet, in each tiny thing he did, like startling her as he had a few moments ago made her slip deeper into whatever she was trying so hard to push away.

Her lips parted and she longed to say something to him, but she was uncertain. Instead, she mirrored his body language. First leaning back and away and then towards him. She crossed and uncrossed her ankles before shifting back and forth in her seat. In the movements that she made, she wanted to convey some sort of feeling of comfort or relief in being consulted but truly she was waiting for him to say something. She'd spent so long hiding, inside herself, inside the house where she had lived, she didn't know if bold was even still part of her. And besides, she could hardly guess wrong, lean in at the improper moment, and suddenly he might want her gone but be too polite to say anything.

No. It was better to steer them and keep them steadfastly in the friend zone. And yet, she was so tempted as she crossed and uncrossed her feet to reach one out to lean on his. Once the idea was in her head, she couldn't drop it. So instead, she simply crossed her ankles, one after the other and slid her feet along the distance until her toes were barely touching his. In one movement, so slipped one foot between both of his a few inches. A question to be sure.

"I don't know. What do you think we are?" Her deep green eyes never left his.
