"You have to pretend you don't know," Simon emphasized, eyeing the double doors on the other side of the room as though Wille was about to burst through.

"I know, Simon, I am aware of how a surprise party works," Sara said, rolling her eyes. His phone lit up suddenly, and sure enough, Simon got Malin's text announcing Wille's arrival.

"Shit, shit shit shit he's already here - go downstairs and tell him that it's time to take the birthday photos," Simon commanded, rushing over to their group of friends who were still crouched and waiting patiently.

Sara disappeared, and soon they heard the telltale footsteps approach the door before it swung open to reveal a lax, then confused, then smiling, then overwhelmed Wille, looking as handsome as ever in his pressed suit and colorful tie Simon had chosen for the occasion.

Kara picks Lena up, physically carrying her away from the courthouse - this is not what she expected when Lena suggested they walk home from the club where they were celebrating.

“Why not?” Lena asks, whiny and fierce, and yet still melting completely into the hold Kara has on her, as soft as ever.

“Because you’re drunk - “

“Drunk words are sober thoughts!”

“And we’re already married, we’re literally coming home from our anniversary party right now!”

"Maybe I should step down as CEO of L-Corp coz if we get married, you'll be forced to attend all these events as my wife, as Kara Danvers, and what if that gets in your way of doing supergirl duties?" (supercorp)

Lena is silent for a moment, and then she smiles that smile that makes Kara’s heart feel like it’s exploding, before saying, “Well, literal power couple it is then.”

And she does - Lena has literally never been this attracted to Kara, and that’s saying something when her girlfriend spends half her time in a skintight bodysuit fighting crime. But Kara in a fitted black tux, her hair pinned back with golden curls spilling down onto her shoulders, her neck tense as she lifts her chin for Lena to tie her bowtie? That’s something else entirely, and Lena is weak.

“Your heart’s going crazy right now.”

“Turn around and look in the mirror, you’ll see why.”

When she used that voice, Kara knew there would be no more joking - after all, even though Lena was currently cowering on the counter like a 1950s housewife that saw a mouse, her glare was no less scary. 

“I’m on it.”

“What was I supposed to do, Lee, they wanted to play,” Kara says, just managing to get out the words before one of the puppies attacks her face with licks. Lena’s heart almost burns with warmth at the sight of Kara laughing, letting a tiny puppy slobber all over her face.

She absently rubs the lead-lined box in her coat pocket, thinking of her plans for the evening, and her plans for the rest of her - their - life.

“We’re still on for our date tonight, right?”

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

Maggie takes a moment, takes in the burnt lump in a pot that will probably never recover, the state of their kitchen, the infant on her hip looking around with big eyes, almost her entire hand in her mouth.

“You know, Kara texted me that we’re still welcome at theirs for Friendsgiving, like, an hour ago, and I know we said we wanted our first with Jamie to be special and just us, but Lena got a chef and everything - “

“You bundle up our daughter, I’ll get the pie so we at least don’t show up empty handed.”

“We’ll just say it was too overwhelming to do the whole Thanksgiving thing with a new baby, you don’t mind if we blame you, right, Jamie? No one has to know it’s because Mommy almost burned the house down.”

Of course, Kara Danvers surprises her once again, by pulling her closer, her hands taking their sweet time from where they had been toying with the zip on Lena’s dress, leaving twin trails of fire down to her hips. Strong fingers press lightly, like Kara is testing the waters, her breath audibly catching in her throat when Lena responds by running her thumbs up Kara’s jawline, fingers tangling in long blonde hair.

“Only if you want,” Kara manages, her voice thick and her eyes on Lena’s lips.

Lena doesn’t think she’s ever wanted anything this much.
