Be mindful that the word ‘negativity’ isn’t used as an excuse when we simply find ourselves in a situation with someone who has a different point of view or is suffering. However, there are people and situations that repeatedly drain the life from us, and where we become the enabler. Before we know it, being around these clogs and deadens our enthusiasm and beliefs. It rubs off on us. Whatever we’re around, soaks into us. We don’t have to ‘cut out’ for ever everyone and everything negative - we can take time out and switch our habits for a while. Nothing has to be permanent. But often we become blind to this choice... so how to make it? Perhaps a helpful way to distance ourselves from negativity is to STOP, feel the physical sensations in our bodies and pay attention to these. When we find ourselves unable to explain but feeling ‘bad’, ‘frustrated’, ‘down’ or ‘drained’ then we’re usually in a fruitless situation. So it’s time to do something else, to switch to creative and mutually uplifting company or experiences. When we actively spend time among positive influences and experiences they equally rub off on us.
