Heating Circulator Modes Explained
Smartcirc Optimo circulators are designed with a three speed control: fixed speed, proportional speed, and constant speed. Here’s a short guide to what the different speed modes mean and which mode to choose to best suit your customer’s heating system.
Fixed Speed Mode:
Fixed speed mode is ideal for applications where maximum head is always required. For example, in homes controlled by a single thermostat and that do not have any thermostatic radiator valves.
Proportional Speed Mode:
Proportional speed mode is designed for applications where there are varying rates of flow. For example, in homes with thermostatic radiator valves. If 5 of 10 radiators are closed, the total required flow in the system is lower than if all radiators are open. Fixed speed mode now would increase the head but proportional speed mode would lower the head, creating less noise and wasting less energy.
Constant Speed Mode
As the name suggests, this mode is used when the pressure head of the pump is always the same. For example, in underfloor heating systems where the hydraulics are changing in flow but not in required head.
