Dilong was a small tyrannosauroid, about 2 meters long, from the Barremian age of the Early Cretaceous, about 125 to 124.6 million years ago. It was found in the Yixian Formation of the Liaoning Province in China, and is known from several remains including the impressions of protofeathers. This made it stand out as confirming that tyrannosauroids did indeed have feathers, though that's hardly under debate much at this time. They were not capable of flight, but they were good for insulation (especially if it is assumed that it had warm blood, which is possible) and probably were helpful in complex social behaviors, like mating, as known in modern birds. It was an active hunter and relied on speed to catch prey, such as smaller dinosaurs and other reptiles and potentially some small mammals.
