There were times when Fjord was very glad he had stopped using vandrens accent cause there was no way in all the nine hells that he was going to be able to say what comes next with any kind of dignity.

“So like...” said Beau attempting to reiterate her question “say there’s a comet about to hit or the chained oblivion is released or ukatoa comes back or whoever else is trying to kill us this week .... if you had 24 hours left who would you want to be with.”

The pair were supposed to be keeping watch over their sleeping party but they were in actuality lying in the grass and gazing up at the stars.

“Is it the end of the world or is it just us dying?” Asked Fjord.

“Does it matter?”

It absolutely did not matter, Fjord was trying to delay having to answe the question

“I suppose....” said Fjord staring at the night sky “if I had to choose someone I would choose Nott”

For a brief moment there was silence.

“NOTT!!!!??!????” Exclaimed Beau Causing Fjord to hurriedly shush her “you like Nott? I thought you were more into... I don’t know... like... Caduceus, maybe.”

“Well obviously if it was a relationship question I would choose Caduceus.” Fjord blustered his cheeks reddening “Caduceus is kind and soft and huggable. If you had asked me who I would rent a houseboat and travel down the coast with of course I would pick Caduceus but this isn’t that, this is some apocalyptic, primal, last day of burning man shit”

“And you think that you and Nott would be ‘primal’?” Asked the ever sceptical Beau

Fjord sighed and laid back in the grass, this is not how he pictured his night going “I don’t know what we’d be but I think we finally understand each other, I think we’ve both had partners before...”

Beau interrupted with a swift punch to the shoulder “Yeah! She has a partner right now Fjord!”

Fjord yelp and held his shoulder “I know that! I don’t want this to actually happen! But there’s no marriage at then end of the world, it’s just hot bodies and the overwhelming threat of death!”

“So you find Nott attractive then?” Asked Beau, leaning in for the juicy details

“Well yes I think that she’s....” Fjord stumbled over his words “she’s a fine figure of a woman” Beau laughed but Fjord continued “plus she always call me out on my shit and I like to think I return the favour. We have .... I think we have chemistry.”

Fjord looked over to see Beaus’ grinning face. “Wow Fjord I didn’t realise you were into shorter girls” she laughed and Fjord rolled his eyes “I guess we were lucky that Avantica was so tall otherwise you’d have been seduced to the darks side.”

“Oh-Kay “ said Fjord getting to his feet “I’m going to to patrol the perimeter”

As he walked away Beau yelled after him “No wonder you got so flustered in Hupperduke!”

Once Fjord had all but disappeared into the night a small head poked out of the dome “Is he gone?”

“Oh hey Nott! You’re awake!” Said Beau

“Well you yelled my name at full volume so yes I’m awake” said Nott walking out of the bubble fully “I’m surprised no one else woke up”

“So you heard all of that?” Asked Beau.

Nott nodded “I got most of it, can you summarise it for me?” She asked Beau.

“Fjord thinks you could rock his world with your hot bod.” Summarised Beau

Nott took a long sip from her flask and said “he’s not wrong”

God I'm the worst multi-shipper. I'm super invested in the idea of Fjorclay at the moment, but there's a part in episode 89 of Critical Role where Fjord sounds a little disappointed that Nott wasn't there to watch his fight and, look, I don't know if I'd want them to actually end up together – I love Nott and Yeza's relationship too much. I just think it would be cute if Fjord had a bit of a begrudging crush on her.

Not sure if you have ever watched sens8, but its like people from different places can just appear to each other as visiting and sometimes share their experiences and abilities by taking control of the other persons body for a bit. I say this because Njord sens8 au where Nott visits Fjord and they have a picnic or she helps him make a chemical he was having a hard time figuring out.

I have seen Sense8! So, I am totally up for this. I am imagining the Wolfgang and Kala scene where she is helping do the make a bomb thing so gonna go with the Nott helping Fjord make a chemical.

Having a deep and meaningful connection with a single person was hard to come by, but eight? Well, sometimes it was overwhelming. However, there was no denying that Fjord felt the strongest connection to Nott. She was married, but they still made it work and he husband was surprisingly supportive of their…arrangement.

They had never met before for real but it didn’t take away the special relationship they shared. Fjord had grown up an orphan and mostly alone, so having this family now meant more to him than he felt comfortable admitting.

He had gotten a job as a sailor and they had gotten into a spot of trouble. Right now that didn’t matter. Pirates had boarded and insisting they had their contraband. Fjord was holed up down below where the canons and gun powder were but he was pinned down by thugs with guns. His heart was racing and he mentally shouted as loud as he could out to Nott.

The mental scream shocked her out her sleep, sitting up and panting heavily as it took a moment for her mind to register what exactly what was going on. Being in different time zones was quite irritating at times. She carefully got out of bed, so as to not disturb her husband sleeping by her side.

It didn’t take long to make the connection between them more concrete and be able to see through his eyes. She began helping him guide through making a small bomb out of the gun powder and other items around the around the area. ‘No not that!’ She couldn’t help the shriek in her voice when Fjord almost grabbed the wrong thing but quickly corrected even before the mental warning finished.

‘Are you sure this is gonna work?’ It wasn’t that Fjord doubted Nott, he just did not like the idea of blowing up his own ship. An annoyed huff in his head was the only response he got. ‘Right.’ He lit the fuse and threw the bomb as far away from himseld as possible and promptly began running the other way.

The explosion, while localized and small, was still in the hull of the ship. It wasn’t sinking fast, but now there was even more chaos and danger into a situation that already had too much of both.

His ears were ringing and he was a little steady on his feet, but he could still feel Nott and it brought him comfort and guidance.

Despite the distance between them, the explosion was just as real to her as it was to Fjord. Nott had moved to the kitchen and took a drink to help steel her nerves. ‘Keep moving. Get off the ship!’

The ship was an absolute madhouse, as crew mates and pirates alike began to panic and abandon ship. Fjord was not the most graceful and the ship was listing and dipping, so that didn’t help much either. He did more tripping than anything but eventually he found himself back on the deck. There was screaming and running all around.

By the time he had gotten up top, the lifeboats that were still functional had been taken. There was little other choice but to jump at this point.

‘Don’t you fucking dare!’ Nott hissed at him. There had to be a better way. It was hard to tell if the panic and fear she was feeling now was of Fjord or her own anxiety for his well being. A combination of both, most likely. She took another drink.

‘I don’t see any other way outta this! ‘msorry.’ Fjord dove with expertise and went under the water. It wasn’t storming, but he was in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight. Maybe if he could swim to one of the lifeboats nearby.

The bottle she was drinking from was almost empty now as she watched Fjord swim.

‘I wish you wouldn’t...’ The thought was practically mumbled. He couldn’t help but worry about her alcoholism. And right now, it wasn’t helping him.

‘It helps me!’ She argued, unable to hide the anger rising now.

This was not the time to be arguing so he let it go for now. Fjord focused on the objective at hand, but he just couldn’t swim fast enough to get to a lifeboat and trying to yell for attention only left him coughing up seawater. He was a strong swimmer but even so he could only last so long before he began getting tired. ‘Will you stay with me?’ It was selfish but he could use the comfort.

‘Of course.’ Nott was smart and was trying to think of other ways to help, but she couldn’t come up with anything else. Was she going to have to watch him die? ‘I put the bottle down.’

Fjord smiled. ‘I know. Thank ya kindly.’ She loved hearing that drawl of his, even if it wasn’t real. Might as well humor her one last time.

They fell silent after that. No words needing to be spoken. They basked in each other’s presence, finding comfort and love there.

That was until Nott lost the connection and crumbled to her knees on the floor. “Fjord...” She whispered his name out loud, glared at the near empty bottle at this point, before picking it up and throwing it against the wall in absolute rage.

Drowning was an awful death. Fjord wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Or at least...he had thought he had? Was he dead? Was this the after life? He couldn’t feel Nott or any of the rest of the Mighty Nein. There was a presence that he sensed but he didn’t recognize it all.
