10 (short, huh?), 26, 27, 43, andddd for 50:
Why writing? What inspires you/ got you into it in the first place?
Thanks Devin :) Hope you're having a slay day! <3
Hey, Devin here!
10. How tall are you?
Did you know... shortness is only a matter of perspective? I'm 191 cm. Obviously. Like Floyd Leech. You should totally believe me.
150 cm
26. What are some seemingly childish things you like?
Ohhhh, that's a very cool question! Ummm.... hmmm...
I really like cute notebooks, planners, scrapbooks, and calligraphy sets! I don't have a creative bone in my body when it comes to writing legibly, much less decorating planners or scrapbooking, but it seems like a good hobby!
Another a childish thing I like? I really like my happy stims! It's a sore point for me in real life, especially if other people are in the room when I stim, but I like flapping my arms or jumping up and down. The happy chemicals create more happy chemicals in an unstoppable feedback loop that has originated since childhood. :D
Ohhhh, puns! I like to grab seemingly random objects and making puns out of them!
I mean, with all of these questions... It seems like this is a quest ur on to know more details about me! ;)
Yes, I know it's bad shhhh...
27. What’s your favorite book? Or just one you’ve read a few times?
Oh gosh, please don't be mad at me, it's been years since I've read a book that wasn't a reference text or a manual. Can fanfictions count? From my most recent memory, even though it's been a while since I've last read it (but I have read it upwards to 10+ times over the years)... Snakeskins by Lsunnyc.
I know you like worldbuilding and lore, guess what that fanfic is composed of! (It's also one of my main inspirations to how I write nowadays. I really look up to that author and you should check them out and their ao3 if you're interested!). It's a Hetalia/Harry Potter crossover fanfic and it's... very long, but hey. It's really well written.
But an actual book? Gosh... No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai? That's one of the last few books I remember reading and that was definitely a trip. I related to the main character a bit too much and the subject matter, trajectory of the character... It really hits and there's a reason why the book has the reputation it has.
43. Do you have siblings? How many?
Yup! Two of them!
50. Wild Card. Any question, ask away.
Why writing? What inspires you/ got you into it in the first place?
(Answer under the cut because it got too long!)
Okies, so I know in the past I think I admitted to having started posting fic in 2012 and my first fandom was for Tokyo Mew Mew. However! My first ever fanfic was for Sharkboy and Lavagirl and it was written on yellow legal pad and will never see the light of day ahaha!
The reason I bring that up is because when I was younger and school would let out for the summer, our class would have this ritual of throwing away our tattered old notebooks that we weren't planning on using for the next school year into the recycled bins. However, before I left for home, I would take all of the notebooks that had been dropped into the recycle bins, take them home, rip out the old notes and doodles, and then keep them over the summer.
So that I can write in them.
I started in fifth grade when I realized that it would be a waste just to let those notebooks be recycled when there were some that had tons of clean pages??? In them??? That's why I saved those poor notebooks.
The thing was, I didn't realize that I had like half a dozen or so notebooks that had clean pages that I realized... I could do things with the notebooks. So, over the course of the summers from 5-7 grade, I would write short stories (seriously, short as in like one paragraph long onto a single page and call it a day). It wasn't until the summer of 7th grade that I realized... wait, why write stories only in the summer? Why not write during the whole year instead?
At that point, I amassed a lot of notebooks and scraps of papers filled with stories. Somewhere along the way, I shifted from purely original fiction to fanfiction because it was through my first official fandom (Tokyo Mew Mew) that I realized fanfiction was a thing.
I totally thought, upon reading my first fanfic in ye old ffnet, that it was actually canon material until I checked the comments and other stories. And thus, my eyes were opened.
So yeah, come eighth grade and beyond, I began writing more fanfics in my free time and eventually, in high school, I began bringing my fanfic notebook into class so that I could work on them during breaks.
I think what really inspires me to write would be because... there are entire swathes of the story, of the behind scenes, that we never get to see in canon. You can infer a lot from subtext or hints dropped from characters alluding to events, character perceptions, etc. but there's a difference from accepting the subtext or canon as it is and... Taking what you know and then adding depth to it and transforming it into something new.
I don't know... breathing life into characters who already has an established character is so exhilarating to me! There are people out there who roll their eyes at fanfic, but like??? Writing a character and making them stay in character while also transforming them in the process??? It's creation in one of its more pure forms while also paying homage to the original creator.
There's a quote somewhere... maybe on tumblr? and this person said that writing fanfic or any sort of transformative work is like playing with the sandbox that the original creator has left behind. That's what I'm doing, I'm playing in a sandbox.
And I'm having a lot of fun with it! :D
Anywhoozles, thank you so much for the questions and I hope that you have a wonderful day!
Feel free to ask more questions and I hope that you have a wonderful day! :D
Hey!!!! I hope we can still do that ask game from a sec ago :) 🤔📌💡🗑
Hey, Devin here!
🤔 What’s one genre you’ve never written that you’d like to try?
Oh gosh, I think I would like to write horror! I mean, yeah you could argue yandere is horror, but the way I write it, it's more... psychological thriller? If I do write horror, I think I would like to write about ghostly hauntings... or maybe even a slasher!
I would also like to try my hand at adventure type stories! Like the cast of characters going on a quest or something to that effect.
📌 If all your fics/WIPs fell off a ship and were drowning (go with it), and you could only save one, which would it be?
Why would you make me choose??? Like... I've got literal hundreds of fics under my belt at this point! I'm not proud of all of them, but they're all my babies!
That said, I would have to go with Caged Birds! Seriously, I'm spending so much time and effort into it and not only that, I'm projecting that it's going to take months, maybe even years before I finish. You bet I'm saving this wip!
💡 What’s the weirdest thing you’ve been inspired by?
Oooohhhhh! Good question! I think I get inspired by character interactions or the lack thereof. I like putting various elements like world buidling, characters, or plot ideas into a blender and seeing how the similarities and/or differences balance each other out or enable each other. You can see this a lot if you were to look at my old fics that are crossovers! It's amazing what you can do to put two seemingly different fandoms together!
🗑 What is one fic idea that you loved at first but then scrapped?
Once upon a time, I was going to write an oc-centric story for Obey Me! The main premise of the story is that the MC who I was going to call Bitty actually disobeyed Lucifer's orders from the very first few chapters, met Belphegor, and then admitted it to Lucifer. Lucifer, who is probably questioning his judgment, allows Bitty to continue visiting Belphegor so long as they don't tell the other brothers. His reasoning was that Belphegor (who he is very secretly fond of since that's his baby brother) needed enrichment and what better way to do that than to have him understand and bond with one of the humans he claims to detest so much.
The story was going to be mainly focused on the relationship between Belphegor and Bitty, with plenty of side plots and shenanigans with the other brothers. Also, Bitty is very against the idea of enslaving anyone to their will, even if it will serve them greatly in the future. Because of that, they refuse to make pacts with the brothers. This causes Belphegor and them to have arguments, but eventually, Bitty explains that maybe they can reason with Lucifer to let Belphegor out.
It takes months, but eventually, Belphegor gets released and in a moment where he feels like he can finally exact revenge, he realizes that Bitty is one simple human. He can't really achieve anything with that other than to halt the exchange program momentarily.
There's tension, but eventually, Belphegor reintegrates with the rest of the Devildom and eventually, both Bitty and Belphegor become best friends (possibly lovers???) without the possibility of death and hidden resentment from Belphegor.
A few notes: The both of them bond over how idealistic and absurd the exchange program is, how much they dont' like Diavolo, and how they enjoy card games.
Another note: Bitty's full name is Bituin Perez. Take that as you will :D
Thank you so much for the questions and I hope that you have a wonderful day! :D
I hope that's not too much😭😭😭 feel free to pick whatever :)) have a fantastic day!! <3
Hi, Devin here!
Thank you so much for the prompts! Hehehe, I might have gone a little overboard so, I'm posting it all under the cut! (Sidenote, I know you're here mostly for Twisted Wonderland, but most of these quotes are from my other fandom published works that I'm most proud of).
🐙a pretty/elaborate quote from a published work
🐠 a funny quote from a published work
🐳a big, long quote from a published work
🐬dealer's choice--any quote from any published work
🦭recommend a partially published wip!
You already know I'm gonna say Caged Birds Don't Sing, But They Still Bite! But I'm also working on another octatrio centered fic! This one centers around land boot camp, but it doesn't take place in the same universe as Muscle Memory; it's kind of its own little thing. It has three chapters and details their thoughts and feelings on certain aspects of surface dwelling and interracial relationships between human and merfolk unions.
Once again, thank you so much for the opportunity to show off my favorite quotes! I may have gone a little overboard, but I just realized that I can be ridiculously good when I want to be! :D
Feel free to ask more questions or talk to me about whatever! (You're always welcome to talk more about Key if you like :D)
Thanks again and I hope that you have a wonderful day! :D
(For of those you wondering, I embedded the links into the screenshots so you can visit the fic itself!)
Oh HECK YEAH i love when you do these!!! :D ❄️☂️🌪 please! :) (also, is it okay if we respond to them? Lol? It's such a joy to hear your thoughts :) and that upcoming oc fic of yours has me like 👀👀👀👀 but i dont wanna spam lmao) hope you're having a great day!!!
Hey, Devin here!
Also, feel free to interact in any way you like! You can write in the tags, through the main reblog, asks, dms, etc! I love getting feedback from my readers!
(This is a cue for you to spam!)
^^^PLEASE
Anywhoozles!!!
❄️ Share a snippet from a WIP of your choosing.
Since you seemed interested in my oc fic, I’ll give you a snippet from there!
☂️ Is there a fic concept you have that you'd like to just explain and share because you're not sure you'll ever write it? If so, what is it?
I really want to write a polyam fic with either octatrio and an oc or AceDeuceYuu. It would be really cute and explore how their dynamics changes from their fourth year at internship to the very beginning of their adult lives.
For AceDeuceYuu, Ace and Deuce would be the main ship before they realize that they’re both head over heels for their favorite magicless prefect. The romance for Ace and Deuce starts in third year when they begin to have more respect and regard for one another while their budding romantic/sexual feelings for Yuu starts manifesting when they’re all roommates after graduation and they need to look for work together.
It’s gonna be a trial for all three of the characters where Deuce realizes that he doesn’t have to stick to monogamy, Ace has to make sure to be open when communicating, and Yuu has to open their heart that maybe, even when they can’t go back to their home world, they still have two idiots to go back home to.
(By the by, Grim is also there, but he wants to open up a Beast Taming course back in NRC and spends most of the story interning at another academy that specializes in the subject).
As for the octatrio and their oc fic… I can’t give it all away because it relate to another wip, but basically, it’s about forgiveness, acceptance, and openness between landfolk and sea folk dwellers. There’s going to be angst, anger, and a whole lot of shenanigans and dinglehoppers and whatsitcalleds for the vast majority of it.
The first wip is contingent on creativity while the second depends on the fact that I need to complete another wip before getting to the polyam.
🌪 Sum up a WIP with a few fic tropes/Ao3 tags.
For my twst oc WIP:
* Crowley’s A+ Headmaging/Parenting
* Isekai
* Angst
* Drama
* Bullying
* Alternate Universe
* Hurt/Comfort
* Found Family
* Deviates from Canon
* Everybody is Bad at Feelings
* Original Characters (seriously, there’s a lot of them)
* Worldbuilding and Lore
Thank you so much for the questions and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Feel free to ask more questions spam me and message me if you like! :D
(hey man no need to answer! but i just wanted to tell you how excited i am to read ur newest fic!!! Its LONG. With PARTS. THATS EXHILARATING!!!! THANK YOU SM FOR WRITING <333)
I'M GOING TO ANSWER YOU ANYWAY BECAUSE THAT'S HOW I ROLL
Ohhhhh, you have no idea how long I've been waiting to write a land boot camp story! (I actually have another idea unrelated to this universe's land boot camp, but I hope it's just as engaging!)
And yes! It's long! And with parts!
Thank you so much for the kind words and I hope that you have a wonderful day! I'm so glad that you're still reading my works! Hopefully, I meet your expectations! :D
💧Rain - What's the most emotional scene you've ever written?
Heheheh, if you're interested in reading isekai stories for twst, you're gonna find out. ;)
If not, I think one of the more emotional scenes is one of my more recent fics for Jade Leech and the Prefect, Stoking the Flame. It's the part where the Prefect starts breaking down because they're stuck in another world and Jade is. just. not. getting. it. :D
Another one is a short ficlet I wrote for North Italy/Veneziano from Hetalia World Series. It's basically him trying to live with the fact that he's immortal and ultimately, every day is the same.
🪨 Landslide - Which WIP has the most worldbuilding?
That same isekai story I've been hinting at in these past few asks for this ask game. ;D
I've been working on it for several months now and it's chock full of ocs, the gripes and groans of staff, and a few other ocs for the fun of it. There's a lot of references to canon cultures and lands, but I have my own little spin on it.
🌙 Eclipse - What's the most common / reoccurring theme of your WIP(s)?
Ummmm... It really depends on the genre, actually?
For my yandere stories, I like to focus on how the yandere worms their way into your life, how manipulative they are on the inside, but completely innocent and unassuming on the outside.
For romance, I like to focus on the little moments. Not grand gestures, but the mundane and everyday details that make the relationship all the more fulfilling.
Most of my stories are also character interaction heavy alongside a heavy dose of introspection. On the surface, you'll find that the characters are working in harmony together or just having a conversation, but delving deep into the minds of one of them, I might write them as having an internal conflict with the other character.
I also like putting little observations that add so much to the story, but don't seem like much until you read the entire thing.
Thank you for the ask and I hope that you have a wonderful day! :D
HI!!!! IT'S ME!! NO NEED TO ANSWER AND ILY TOO!!😭😭 :) Im glad I was able to humor you and let you know how much you and your words are appreciated :)) I've been following you for a while and it's been a problem where i want to leave some commentary, like, COMMENTARY COMMENTARY, bc im genuinely in love with your work and you deserve it!!! But! I interrupt myself and struggle to find what to say– BUT it's okay. Bc expect more crazy tags. I am hunting you down and so excited for these rereads (BRO???? THAT RIDDLE FIC??? I HAD TO RESTRAIN MYSELF FROM READING BC I HAD OTHER PRIORITIES AT THE TIME and i knew, i knew so well that i would just get sucked in. Absolutely immersed without hope for resurrection. Butttttt >:))) now theres time for her ;)) I really want you to know how incredible your works are (again. Diction in general. Has me on the ground.) and that there are people enjoying them and kicking their feet in dispair and delight :) again, thank you so much for writing, thank you sm for the gifs! and, have a wonderful day :) <33
Oh my gosh!
Yes, please give me all of your commentary and tags! I don't care how crazy they get, I absolutely love getting feedback from my readers! :D
Are you talking about Off With That Contract? I can't wait to read what you have to say about that if you ever do get around to commenting! (One of my favorite fics to have written thus far for twst!)
Thank you so much for your kind words and continued support! I look forward to hearing from you again (if you ever do) and I hope that you continue reading! I'm so glad that I managed to appeal to your tastes and truly appreciate your happiness!
Thanks again and I hope that you have a wonderful day! :D
