Kina, the beloved false killer whale at Sea Life Park, dies

The park announced the death of Kina, its false killer whale, on Tuesday.

The last pseudorca in North America is dead. :’(

It’s strange how all the articles put her age as 44 years, since she was caught in early 1987. 44 years would make her 12 when she was caught, but what do I know. She was an older animal either way.

Illegaler Handel mit Klimakillern nimmt zu

Die EU will den Verbrauch bestimmter Kühlmittel reduzieren, weil sie für das Klima tausendmal schädlicher sind als CO₂. Dadurch ist deren Preis gestiegen, was den Schmuggel mit den Mitteln lohnend macht.

Der Grund dafür ist einfach: die EU hat die Verwendung der Mittel stark eingeschränkt. Daher steigen deren Preise und der Schmuggel damit grassiert. Über die hochpotente Klimaschädigung von Kühlmitteln (FCKW) machen sich die Schmuggler aber keine Gedanken.
