Living in Boulder was a beautiful, yet very dark and complicated time in my life. Thinking back on it, it all feels like a strange dream. As if I am having little glimmers of past life memories that have long been lost through reincarnation. Judging by the plethora of journals I accumulated over that year and a half’s time, the happiness was often outweighs by the horrors. Both my physical and mental health were in rapid decline, and everything was growing foggy. But, one solace I found, was driving twenty minutes up a mountain, to where the crisp air and altitude dizziness always helped me find perspective. About twenty minutes outside of the city limits, tucked into the woods of Flagstaff mountain, was a stone theater. Large, rock benches forming a beautiful geometric pattern, and an altar like stage, right at the edge of the cliff face. My favorite place in the whole world was there, late at night, sitting on that alter, my legs dangling over the side. You could see out for what seemed like the entire world. A sea of twinkling lights below, indecipherable between where the land ended and the stars began. I referred to it as church. It was where I have had my both greatest conversations with those I cared for the most, and some of my worst cries. I could sit in complete silence, feeling like the only person in the world, or scream as loud as I needed to. It symbolizes the constant balance of harmony and chaos that makes up my life. On the ride back up to the house, this evening, I thought about the previous time I biked up Pikes Peak (2012 Pikes Peak Cycling Hillclimb event). It was the same route the cars race on and I made it 11 of the 12 miles, taking 3 and 1/2 hours before being turned around. - Today I biked Flagstaff, and around town. Including the commute, today's total ride was 34 miles, with 3hrs & 10mins of ride time. I wonder if I'm ready for Pikes Peak now?
