Flambert Prompt:
Robert, as so often happens, ends up getting fucked up in some way (jumped by Red Ringer's looking for revenge, mugged on his way home, going feral in some random bar fight, take your pick) on his day off.
He's unconscious when he's taken to the hospital and while he has his phone on him, he's missing his wallet so they don't have the ability to try and look him up and find his emergency contact.
A nurse goes through his phone hoping to find someone to reach out to and hits the jackpot: this fucked up, freckled John Doe on his way to the the ICU has some kind of significant other it looks like, why else would he have a contact listed as "Bae" saved in his favorites on his phone?
Flambae was in the middle of getting ready to go out when he gets a call from Robert.
He almost ignores it - or at least lies to himself that he might not actually to pick up. Except if he knows that Bob Bob will bitch at him about it later (well, more like Robert will quietly comment about the missed call with that voice that more and more often lately shoots right through Flambae's defenses and sinks right into his heart) and besides what if he needs Flambae's incredible strength and skills or something? Flambae isn't going to miss out on the chance to be there for him rub it in his face how much better than Robert he is.
When it's not his dispatcher but a nurse at the hospital on the other line with the news that his boyfriend (???) was in the ICU his brain goes into a hard reboot.
Robert being at the hospital tracks with the feral bastard's record of not having any self preservation and starting shit with those he shouldn't. That's nothing new or surprising.
But why are they calling Flambae? Why are they referring to Robert as his boyfriend? Oh shit did Robert list him as his emergency contact?
Why would he - wait, shit. Fuck... are they... have they been dating this whole time?
They had been spending a lot more one on one time and going out for meals together and getting close in general over the past few months and there was that time they fell asleep on the couch together and neither of them really mentioned the fact that they'dwoken up wrapped up in each other's arms... Did...did Flambae just completely miss that he and Robert have been dating this whole time?
He hangs up and launches himself out the nearest window to fly to the hospital as fast as he can before the nurse can ask for Robert's identity and explain the whole situation.
By the time Flambae gets to the hospital, the nurses on the ICU floor recognize him as their uncomfortably frequent flyer Robert Robertson and there isn't a need to try and figure out his identity. They are surprised and excited to find out that Robert started dating someone since the last time he ended up unconscious in their care though, Chad seems like a nice guy, they definitely approve (Robert definitely ends up in the ICU too often, hopefully his boyfriend will help limit that a little going forward).
When Robert wakes up he's not surprised to find out that he's forgotten some things. He's had memory loss before due to traumatic brain injuries, its nothing all that new for him.
He is horrified to learn that he doesn't remember the his relationship with Flambae though. Of all things to lose it had to be how he finally started dating the hot head? That's bullshit he's been trying to figure out how to ask Flambae out for ages and now he can't even remember how and when he finally did???
AKA: Comedy of errors where Flambae and Robert both think they've been dating for months when they haven't been.
