New York Botanical Garden: Flame Azaleas
I freaking love flame azaleas, I was so excited to see them in the garden this weekend. They’re orange with long stamens and the first and last are two photos of the same cluster, from the side and from right in front of it. The middle one is a different bush that was paler with thin bright stripes.
(Third photo is available as a print on redbubble.)
BHL Sunday Garden: Orange Flowers!
Welcome to this week's #BHLSundayGarden featuring Orange Flowers! To kick off our weekly botanical art series, we have Flame Azaleas (Rhododendron calendulaceum). These stunning flowers are native to the Appalachian Mountains, which range from southern New York to northern Georgia.

New York Botanical Garden: Flame Azaleas
Three more pictures of flame azaleas at the New York Botamical Garden: again orange azaleas with long stamens. The first two are the same cluster from different angles (I think), and the last one is a different and less dense cluster.
Picnic in Heaven
There is a beautiful and peaceful spot near our house. It is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Moses Cone Manor. It is shaded by tall oaks and carpeted with green moss. There are lovely flame azaleas scattered amongst the tables adding bright color in the shade. I have driven by and visited this tranquil spot my entire life. Flame azaleas I even spent the night here once on a roadtrip…
Heritage Museums & Gardens: Pink Flame Azaleas
I was running my mouth about how pretty flame azaleas are and then there they were! I also fully assumed these pictures didn’t come out because it was so dark and there was no way they were in focus (my kingdom for a lens with image stabilization on it), or I would’ve tried for better ones. Oh well.

New York Botanical Garden: Pink flame Azaleas
I’ve never seen these before! They’re just as pretty and striking as the orange ones. Once again, these have longer stamens and are also striped instead of spotted like normal azaleas. These pictures are of the same bush, the second a little more close up than the first. They’re a light but vibrant shade of pink, with a splash of yellow on the top petal of each one.
