She looked over as she noticed Katniss’ weight increasing on her, “Katniss?” She nudged her, gently. “You awake?”
Impossible explosions deafened his ears as Peeta stumbled back, tripping on the dusty gravel and landing hard against the ground. His head hit the floor as Mutts approached him, heavy paws of wicked creatures leaving craters as they stalked towards him. Golden orbs glared right through him, lips curled back to reveal deadly razors. Peeta scrambled backwards, hands fisting clumps of dust and dirt in his desperation.
The exploding pods, combined with days of no sleep had left Peeta in an increasingly fragile state. His nerves were shot by the time the pod erupted alongside his head and he'd fallen back, mind immediately blaring hallucinations before him. The already chaotic scene before him devolved in to fire and brimstone, with Mutts ready to pounce upon the weakened boy. Despite shouting from the rest of the team, nothing had roused Peeta from his personal nightmare, hands lashing out in an attempt to fight the fictitious beasts. The fog from the 75th Games was rolling towards him, housing seemingly invulnerable Mutts that howled his name.
Shouts left Peeta's mouth, devolving in to screams as the imaginary creatures approached ever closer, the wicked fog licking at his feet. Peeta continued attempting to scoot away from the oncoming threats, the howling, the explosions, the chaos ringing through his ears louder than any human voice could muster. Sweat broke on his forehead as he squeezed his eyes shut, only to open them again and be presented with the same horrifying image. Memories of Katniss assaulted his mind, ones he could not determine were true or not and all at once, he was certain that this attack had been orchestrated by the Girl On Fire. His eyes searched frantically for the Mutt with the grey eyes, with the Mockingay symbol burnt in to its flesh, the Mutt - Katniss Everdeen.
