Karril ran back to the bed after ending the call with his father, and threw himself back onto the pillow-covered mattress. He rolled up to Mayu, tossing cushions out of the way to get to her. It wasn't until he pressed up against her, about to ask her if she was ready to start the day, when he remembered that he was missing something. Quickly, he rolled back to his side of the bed and tore open the drawer of the nightstand, rummaging through candy wrappers and loose change for the present hidden under the garbage. The wrapping job wasn't the best, all wrinkled corners and tape, but it still did the job of hiding the gift inside.
He'd been a little hesitant to get it when he first saw it. He was afraid Mayu wouldn't like it more than the nerf guns and dancing flowers he'd gotten his friends. He hadn't ever seen her with much jewelry either, but after seeing the dress she bought to do her in contests in, he knew he had to get it. Something to match. And that's what guys did, anyway. Got their girlfriend bracelets and necklaces and other sparkling things. At least, that was what he'd seen in the movies.
