Pre-Battle Bio: FLASHBANG!

Great things can come from your tiny college dorm room- the three members of FLASHBANG! formed the band at Emerson College in Boston. With two guitarists, one bassist, and a drum machine, the trio puts out pure, bare bones rock and roll. Lacking a real drummer, the band utilizes what they call Ringo D2 to back up their sound. The three men have all known each other since their freshman year, but didn’t decide to make a band until their sophomore year. Their influences include The Strokes, David Bowie, and Brian Jones- the inspiration for the first song they ever wrote. The band claims they’re trying to be the Rolling Stones in the way that One Direction is to The Beatles. Frontman Ted Esten said that FLASHBANG! is “the antithesis to One Direction”. None of the members come from musical backgrounds, but their shared love of performing brought them together. They believe that bands lack personality nowadays, and they want to bring that back into music. The name FLASHBANG! represents the world, because everything in the world is gray, but they’re here to bring flashes of color in it. The name also stems from the guitarists’ styles of playing, which they call “flashy” and refers to how they “bang” on the guitar. They’d someday like to play at the Paradise Rock Club, the Orpheum Theater, and the Middle East; but for now they are honored to play in Little Building, as that’s where they first formed.
