Reinstalled the original valve covers on the 98 LGT. After a wrinkle black paint job, a fresh set of OEM gaskets, oil filler neck, hardware and new NGK plugs.
When doing this job before I used the covers from a 97 (polished) vs the original 98 (black) and aluminum half moon seals. They started to leak immediately and I suspected the seals or covers. But now after inspection and these seals not wanting to come out, it had to be the covers themselves or the liquid gasket not being fully cured before start up?
The seals previously installed are almost identical to the RCM version in thickness, material and CNC'd. I ended up leaving them in place for now since it wasn't the source of the leak.
Annoying and frustrating job that is way harder than the 04 Outback's SOHC ej25. Third time is the charm, right?

Getting this intake manifold back on the 98 LGT. Switched to Blox Racing 65mm stainless manifold studs vs longer bolts required to run the 10mm teflon spacers. Never tried this method nor have I read where someone else has done studs vs bolts in this application. Trying to not ever strip another bolt hole!
Will report back once I've driven the car awhile. It's a low torque bolt, so this method should be just fine. Won't know unless you try.
