Just South of Humboldt

SD40A 6021 leads a southbound train on the Illinois Central "Main Line of Mid-America". This image was made just south of Humboldt, between Arcola and Mattoon. The bridge carries the mainline over a stream called the Flat Branch.

The Illinois Central was the only railroad that owned the SD40A—which was an SD40 built on a SDP40/45 frame to accommodate a larger fuel tank (of 5000 gallons).

We’re in Columbia, Missouri today for homecoming at my alma mater, the University of Missouri.  You might remember we were here a year ago for Homecoming as well, when I reviewed their Cherry Brown Ale andHudson’s E.S.B.  This beer has been a long-time favorite of my friend@jkaiseresq, so I thought I’d give it a try.

Location: Enjoyed an imperial pint atFlat Branch Pub & Brewing in Columbia, MO.

Ingredients: A mild base beer is spiced up with Anaheim and Serrano peppers.

Appearance & Aroma: It was slightly hazy and golden in color with frothy white head.  There was a decent sized pepper aroma, which reminded me of a bit of nachos covered in jalapenos with a little bit of sweetness.

Taste & Feel: The beer was light with a crisp mouthfeel.  There was a sweet maltiness up front that seemed to have a touch of honey flavor in it.  The chili pepper flavor comes in... (More on Flat Branch Pub & Brewing – Green Chili Beer)
