QUADRATUS PLANTAE MUSCLE PAIN ⠀ [PATHOLOGY AND SELF-TREATMENT] ⠀ The quadratus plantae (QP) is a muscle in the foot that extends from the anterior (front) of the calcaneus (heel bone) to the tendons of the flexor digitorum longus muscle in the leg. It assists the flexor digitorum longus with toe flexing. The muscle brings the pulley of the flexor digitorum longus in line with the length of the foot. The QP muscle also increases stability of the foot by resisting extension of the toes. For more information about this muscle check my previous posts! ⠀ When the muscle is not functioning properly - is tense or carries trigger points (TP’s) - it can be a cause of heel pain and claw toe deformity. Diabetic polyneuropathy (a type of nerve damage that may occur as a complication of diabetes) may cause pain and tingling in the muscle. ⠀ Tensions in the QP muscle often lead to foot pain and local sensitivity to pressure. TP“s can trigger pain in the area of the heel as you can see in the red marked zones on picture 1. ⠀ Self-massage of the QP muscle with a @Blackroll Ball 08: ▪️Place the Blackroll Ball under your foot in sitting or standing position. ▪️Now roll the ball in the area of the QP (plantar midfoot), use the weight of your leg for pressure. ▪️Execute short and slow movements over the entire length of the muscle and look for painful tensions & TP’s. ▪️Once you find one, move a few times from just before to just behind the painful spot until you feel it eases in the tissue. ⠀ Check and subscribe my YouTube channel for more information about treatment and exercises: www.youtube.com/stefanduell ⠀ #anatomy #flatfeet #footpain #foot #fascia #soccer #biomechanics #biotensegrity #running #football #functionalanatomy #functionalrehab #sprint #yoga #bigtoe #turftoe #bunion #chiropractic #massage #physicaltherapy #acupuncture #dryneedling #arch #yogaanatomy #strongfeet #tensegrity #footarch #physiotherapy #osteopathy #sport https://www.instagram.com/p/B_pSZ7HpUO6/?igshid=q4auh3wo8f1w
STABILITY STARTS FROM THE GROUND UP . [ankle stability drill] . With summer in full swing more and more people are getting outside and active! This is great and here is a great drill to help you keep active . Ankle sprain can be grouped into 3 categories: -inversion sprain (foot rolls in) -eversion (foot rolls out) -high ankle sprain (typically involves a dorsiflexed ankle and twisting) . Here is a simple drill to work on better ankle stability through a variety of ranges and targets the lateral and medial stabilizers of the ankles 👣 . The key 🔑 here is control. Speed can cover up limitations, so going slowly through this will allow you to improve proprioception. A mirror to start may be helpful to maintain the ankle in line with the forefoot and shin. Simply resist the pull of the band. You can do this on one foot as well and adjust resistance as able . Tag someone who needs some more ankle stength 🙌 . #vpankle #anklesprain #basketball #volleyball #football #soccer #anklestability - #rehab #prehab #flatfeet #feet #foot #footwork Rp @vitasphysio rp @irwanlibrata
