The waves came to a sudden crash as they reached the shores, coming to a quiet hum.
The sand pebbles slipped through your fingers gently splashing back into the waves to be carried back into the water.
Although your surroundings were calm, you were buzzing with excitement. It was a bonfire night. A night where you got to mingle with friends, but what was most important was getting to see a special person again after what felt like eternity.
“Hey, we’re about to start the bonfire, and the boys are here!” Your friend called out
You quickly turned your head over to see small specks in the distance. Sure enough, the small specks turned into teenage boys when they came closer.
“HEY Y’ALL” You screamed jumping into their arms
“Hi y/n” you heard them respond back hugging you.
You didn’t get to see them too often, but when you did, you always made sure to have a blast.
Especially when you got to be alone with Oikawa.
“heyyyyy y/n.” His smug voice said
“Nice to see you too!” You said giving him a hard high-five
“These are meant for sports ya know...” he winced pulling his hands away
“Shut up shittykawa” Iwaizumi said punching him
“And with that, I’m gonna go help with the bonfire,” you said walking away.
He was still the same cocky bastard, that’s for sure. But you still could help but melt when you touched his hand, or heard that dumb voice of his.
A while later, you all gathered a round watching the sun set and the darkness set in.
This was when the fun really began.
Soon, people started pairing off with whoever caught their eye until only a few remained. You were one of them.
You looked over to see him talking with his friends, you tried to see what he was talking about.
“Yeah so I wanted to tell them that they...” you heard but he son faded out when the waves came crashing in again.
He locked his eyes with you giving a small smirk and continued talking.
Letting out a big sigh, you got up and walked over a bit farther fron every else to draw in the sand. He’d come when he was ready, he always did.
The drawing you had was washed away with the water. Every time, it was washed away by the water.
“I wonder why it does that...” you whispered starting another drawing.
A few moment later, you heard those familiar footsteps creeping up behind you. You felt his comforting aura behind you.
“Look at youuu all damsel in distress.” He mocked you
“Then what are you, tree number 27a or something...” you mumbled scraping your sand drawing away.
“Ouch, someone’s feisty!” He giggled pulling you up to stand.
You hadn’t seen in him so long it felt like you were standing with him for the first time. There wasn’t much to focus on except for him and the way he stared deeply into your eyes too.
He reached out softly touching your finger, then gaining the confidence to grab your whole hand.
“I missed you....I missed you a lot.” He sighed pulling you in for a hug
“I missed you too!” You laughed in his chest
He covered you in warmth and remembered his smell. He smelled like subtle strawberries ever since he stole your perfume that he couldn’t get enough of.
Just thinking about it made you laugh into his chest.
“I missed that giggle you always do,” he said grabbing your other hand
“I missed your hair, oh my gosh you’re hair is so soft!” You said already reaching up to grab his hair
“I missed your hugs and calls at night,” he whispered putting his head on yours and hugging you tighter
“I missed your little rants, they were always so funny.” You laughed thinking of all the times he ranted about stupid things
“But most importantly, I missed kissing you until I couldn’t anymore,” he said hugging you tighter
You felt your heart speed up a little faster. Every time he mentioned it, you became the little kid inside of yourself.
“Like here.” He bent down and kissed your forehead he gently
“And here,” he said kissing your cheeks
“here too,” he said kissing your chin
“And always here,” he smirked kissing you on your lips.
Without even trying, he left you dazed just like every other time. That’s why it didn’t matter that you didn’t see him often.
You could see him once every decade and it would all be worth it just to feel what you felt with him right now.
You leaned into him because you kept shivering. You couldn’t tell if it was cause you were cold, or because of how nervous you were.
“Looks like mother nature is trying to steal my moment.” Oikawa pulled away looking down at you.
You laughed but still shivered from the cold.
“Here, put this on!” He said giving you his hoodie
You were even more giddy with excitement if that was possible, but you grabbed the hoodie and out it on.
“Soo where were we?” He said bending down to you again
“hmmm, I think it was the part when i show you how much I missed you.” You chuckled starting to kiss him.
“Shittykawa, we gotta go!” Iwaizumi yelled, signaling for him to come back
The waves reached the shore when he said that, changing from a loud roar to a quiet hum.
Although you hated to admit it, a tiny piece of your heart broke.
You knew after all the times it happened, you should’ve been used to it. But every time it happened, it hurt a little bit more.
“Dang!” He mumbled grabbing your hand to walk back.
“I’ll see you again?” He asked before running to the car
“You’ll see me again!” You said hugging him one last time.
The next day you woke up surprisingly joyful. There was this newfound happiness in you and you felt like you were on top of the world.
When you were making breakfast, an unexpected call came in.
“hey y/n! how much you wanna bet I can make you drop the phone?” Oikawa sang into the phone
“Slim to none, nothing could take me down right now!” You smiled eating your breakfast
“You’re wearing my hoodie.....aren’t you” he sighed
Your phone fell immediately to the floor while you realized you never gave it back to him yesterday. A rush of guilt came over you while remembered everything last night, except for giving him his hoodie back.
“I win.” You heard him say quietly through the phone with a low laugh
