Flight Log: United Economy 777-200 Chicago to Tokyo
How is a 13+ Hour flight in Economy? Well...it isn't the best but it isn't the worst either
Airline: United Code: UA 881 Date: 11/20/2017 Route: ORD -> NRT THE GOOD: – Service of the FAs – Great IFE collection – I got an empty middle seat THE BAD: – The Lunch – Faulty IFE THE UGLY: – The Sandwich ARRIVING AT THE AIRPORT I woke up at an unbelievable 5:30am in the morning something that, for me at least, is a feat. I have been trying to adjust myself into Asia/Thailand time so that when I…

So with my family we decided to go to Verona for Christmas. We found a great deal with Transavia to fly for a return flight to Verona it was 25€ per person. The only condition was that we fly on Christmas Day to Verona. Judging by the fact we didn't do much on Christmas Day usually we booked. Skip forward to the 23/12 when we found out in the news that some of Transavia's pilots were going on strike from the 24/12 to the 26/12. Transavia had informed the news that all flights on the 24/12 were maintained but that they were not certain about flights operated on the 25/12 and the 26/12. At 11:00 on the 24:12 we found out that all flights were maintained. At 11:30 we received a text message from Transavia informing us that our flight would be operated by NEOS air, and that this airline met all of Transavia's safety and service requirements. I was rather worried as from what I knew NEOS was an Italian charter airline which had planes with old cabins. On Christmas Day we headed to Paris Orly Terminal Sud. There were no queues at all. Seemed as though A lot of Transavia's flights were operated by charter airlines. The terminal was rather deserted but that may be also due to the date and that EasyJet moved its Orly operations from the South terminal to the West terminal. We boarded the Boeing 737 by bus on a remote stand. We were welcomed by a young Italian crew. The cabin was modern (*sigh) with leather seats, overhead tv's and all (sense the excitement). Once we had boarded a commercial representative of Transavia welcomed us and explained that the would be operated by NEOS due to the strike. The safety demonstration was shown on the screens. And we were soon taxiing. The pilot in command was clearly new. There were moments were during the taxi the plane would suddenly change taxiway. Once we were in the air we were offered a soft drink and a bag of mini pretzels. This was rather unusual and I still don't know whether it was the fact that it was Christmas or that the flight was operated by NEOS and not Transavia (who do not offer free food and drink) which had a an influence on the inflight service. We very soon started our descent into Verona. The crew were nice and did not seem angry about working on Christmas Day. The landing was the most AWFUL AND HARD landing I have ever experienced in my life. Yet we made it safely to the gate, all in one piece. When we disembarked we took the only taxi in the airport and headed to our hotel. I have to say I am a fan of Transavia, they really do offer great value for money. NEOS was a nice experience the seats are not the most comfortable but the cabin is clean, modern , the crew is polite and thanks to them I had my first flight on a Scimitar equipped Boeing. The only problem was the landing it was not nice at all and I mean there wasn't any wind also to the best of my knowledge Verona Airport is not the hardest to land at.

Trip Report: Saudia First Class 777-300ER, May 2025
Saudia has long been on my radar as an airline to experience. With the impending launch of friendly competitor Riyadh Air and continued enhancements from airlines in the region, there’s never been a more exciting time to complete a flight review of this often overlooked carrier in the Middle East. Has Saudia shaken of its rather austere image, and embraced the increasingly progressive attitude…
Trip Report: Iberia A321XLR Business Class, March 2025
As the long-haul narrowbody era gains momentum, Iberia has joined the likes of JetBlue, Aer Lingus and TAP Air Portugal by launching transatlantic routes with its brand-new A321XLR. the aircraft offers a different seat to its two other staggered forward-facing widebodied business class products. So the airline has a challenge on its hands to deliver a familiar – yet premium – experience across…
Unboxing Turkish Airlines Economy Class (TK1752 & TK1889) OSL-IST-VIE
Imagine being told that your flight back home was cancelled due to a strike just 2 days before departure. What to do? As fate turned out, we ended up flying Turkish Airlines instead. The replacement (by our own means) flight took us to Istanbul via Oslo, before we headed back to Europe to Vienna, Austria. The 3-sector flight was on Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Turkish Airlines, via Economy…
