Have you read the Twilight Princess manga? I just started reading it. That's the only Zelda game I mostly completed (I think I noped out at the final boss), and I'm glad it got a much longer manga adaptation than most of the games.

i haven't!!!! i remember i started reading it and then i was like.... idk if i like this dark and edgey backstory they gave link :/ and then i put it down (i was reading like scans mid-release, tho, it wasn't finished when i started) and haven't tried picking it up again…. yet! maybe someday i will

What do you think of Strange New Worlds? I've really enjoyed it so far. When I watched it I thought of you, I remember how much Star Trek you binged at UTD XD.

I have admittedly only seen Season 1, but I liked a lot of what I saw so far! I think conceptually it has been one of the stronger live action Modern Trek shows simply because it's been more episodic in a way that lets you spend time with different characters. While even my favorite old Star Trek show (Deep Space Nine) had more serialized sections of the show, one of the reasons I think older Trek worked generally better was that even when it was serialized it was well balanced with a number of self contained episodes that explored individual characters, concepts, and ethical dilemmas in more interesting ways.

I have heard some critisisms of season 2 which I haven't fully seen for myself yet, but I think even having only seen season 1 of SNW, My favorite modern Star Trek would still have to be Lower Decks. My overall ranking is Lower Decks > Strange New Worlds > then pieces of Picard and pieces of Discovery that I liked but are kind of tied in a struggle for me haha.

I think SNW is a show that would benefit from having traditional longer seasons of 26 episodes, honestly. One of the biggest problems with modern Trek is there is just not enough time for the shows to hit their stride and breathe before they're already over. I think SNW definitely benefited by having some setup from Discovery/TOS in general, similarly to how Lower Decks benefited by really leaning into the post TNG/VOY/DS9 era.

I should really get around to catching up with SNW before the next season, though haha

I grew up on MLP: FiM, they were my introduction to art in general! I loved them and still do with all my heart

I was lucky to have a wonderful community of bronies online. Some of them tried to teach me how to draw when they saw I was tracing art (I was like 12), some just made sure I wasn't exposed to ahem- non-kid-friendly stuff MLP was famous for. I still did see it, but I appreciate the effort lmao

I draw ponies to this day, watch MLP related stuff. I met my long term friends in the brony fandom, one of my friends met her husband there lol

Just wanted to let you know that because of your Sonic posts, I started reading the Sonic comics (2019). I'm near the end of the Zombot arc now, it's SO good!

I've never actually read the comics. They've been on my list for a really long time but I've wanted to rewatch the anime first. That being said knowing that they're good :eyes:

I'm glad you like Alya, the hate she receives is unreal. I'm guessing that you haven't been all that deep into the fandom, it's not exactly rare. If you go to AO3 and sort it by kudos, a lot of the most popular fics make Alya into a mean, awful bully (usually due in part to Lila's influence, though I've seen cases where even LILA'S shocked at how cruel and violent Alya is) who terrorizes Marinette, so that Marinette, with the help of her new best friend Chloe (and often some other love interest, like Damian Wayne, Felix, or Luka), can expose Lila's lies and Alya and the rest of the class as being useless and cruel and try to destroy their futures, and make sure that they know that all the happiness in their lives only came from Marinette's efforts, and now without her help, they're left to just wail in despair.

It's really, really bad. There are thousands of fics where Marinette goes "Alya's proven herself untrustworthy so I'm taking away her Miraculous, Chloe's going to be my main back-up instead!" Or where like, Alya's pressuring Marinette into babysitting for her without pay and behind her parents' back, so that Alya's family can be disgusted and disappointed in her actions when they find out. Alya's not perfect, but she's constantly demonized for shit she NEVER EVEN DID. And that other characters have actually, canonically done, even!

With how ingrained it is in saltfics (btw, if you want to see more about this kind of thing, just google "saltfic", you'll find it), how many double standards are applied to Alya, and how little it has to do with what actually happened in canon, at this point I just think it's bigotry. I just block the people who participate in it, it really disgusts me.

DAMN ive been in the fandom since the show started but i have fallen off in recent years only kinda staying in my corner but this makes me very fucking sad. Alya is literally the redeeming grace of that show imo the only reason I continued to watch it for a period of time was bcuz of Alya.

So I was just thinking about that scene during Digimon Adventure where Taichi recounts to Koushirou how he almost "killed" Hikari when he was younger. How he took her to the park while she had a "cold", which resulted in her fainting and needing to be hospitalized for three days on the verge of death. But thinking about that now, from the perspective of an adult... I think Taichi might have actually saved her? There's no way that simply taking Hikari down to the park turned a simple cold into a near-fatal illness, so it must have already been a lot worse and fast-progressing that either he or his mom realized. She nearly died not because he caused her to overexert herself, but because the illness was ALREADY that bad.

If he hadn't taken her to the park, if he'd simply left her to sit or to sleep, he might not have realized just how sick she was, and might not have gotten her to the hospital until she was a lot worse.

I'm betting their mom realized this later on. She was pretty angry when she first found out that Taichi had taken Hikari to the park, but when she returned home with Hikari three days later, we see nothing but kindness from her then. I think she just didn't adequately explain to Taichi later that it wasn't his fault Hikari got so sick, since she had other, more worrying problems, and Taichi didn't bring it up.

This is a good point! I do think part of the problem is that "Taichi taking Hikari out meant she was more likely to suppress her symptoms and try not to bother him, instead of being more vocal about how she felt," but at the same time, in the end, we're only getting a very one-sided view of the issue, and we never got to hear Hikari's own thoughts about it.

(That said, I don't know how pneumonia works, so anyone who knows more about that is encouraged to chime in!)

To be honest, it's also perfectly possible that even if Yuuko had apologized or told Taichi it wasn't his fault, he still would have internalized it being his fault anyway. Taichi has a recurring habit of taking too much responsibility for things he feels guilt for; in fact, even if Yuuko had never gotten mad at him at all, he still would have probably had the take-home that it was his fault.

I adored the new chapter of Bell the Cat! It did make me wonder though - is akumatization as easy to undo in your story as it is in canon? And if Chat Blanc had died, would the akumatization have been undone automatically?

Akumatisation is similar to how it is in canon: butterfly goes out -> sentimental item of victim gets possessed -> victim turns into some superpowered villain

The undoing of it though differs slightly as Ladybug's powerset isn't the exact same as canon. The main difference is that she can't cast "Miraculous Ladybug" and cure all the wounds, repair the damage and undoing any deaths caused by the Akuma.

Healing is one of the main aspects of Tikki's power (according to Kwami lore of this world), but its something Ladybug hasn't been able to manifest. However there have been people in the past who were Blessed by Tikki who were said to be great healers.

Ladybug's primary ability is still the "Lucky Charm". It functions similar to canon in that it will give her a (seemingly) random item that she can use to aid her. Fighting the Akuma is normally a test of her swordsmanship, but the Lucky Charm is what helps her gain the upper hand even against opponents more than twice her size.

When she defeats the Akuma, she uses the Lucky Charm to purify them (not healing, just cleansing). Purifying isn't as instant as casting the Lucky Charm, which is why she can't just do it mid fight. She has to focus it and the Lucky Charm will break down into an essence that will then cleanse the afflicted item (so sort of like canon "Miraculous Ladybug" sweeping over Paris, but just localised to a miniature scale).

She can cast multiple Lucky Charms within the same fight, but it can be insanely exhausting to do so, often making it not worth the risk. There also doesn't need to be an Akumatised person present for her to use Lucky Charm.

Lucky Charms can also have other uses outside of a fight - like creating the talismans seen in the show. Those are exceptionally rare though and Ladybug only seems to be able to create them out of very specific circumstance or just sheer dumb luck.

These are all things that will definitely come up in the fic and be given a little more detail in how they function/what actually happens when a power is used...At least from Ladybug's POV. It's her power yet even she's not entirely sure how it works sometimes. On occasion, she's just convinced that Tikki has to be messing with her.
