ooh 2, 4, 6 and/or 7 for that ask thing!
2. Why do I write fanfiction?
My main aim with writing fanfiction is to become a better writer and build by confidence with it. I struggled for ages to write original fiction and it always felt really daunting, like this mammoth task that I was sure I was never going to be able to undertake, mostly because I thought it had to be perfect right away. So I started writing fanfic for fun, thinking that I would never write anything more than, like 5k, because I didn’t have the dedication. Turns out I do, and it’s made me more confident with writing original stuff which is great. The other reason is that it’s soooo much fun, getting to tell stories and share them with people.
4. Are there any writers that inspire you?
This is gonna sound so stupid, but literally every single person who writes fanfic inspires me to write it as well. Like, the thing that always scared me about writing was that I wasn’t a Writer. It’s not my job, I didn’t even do English a-level. But the fact that other people do it and show it can be a hobby and can be just something you do for fun and not a big scary thing that only Professionals and people with creative writing degrees do, was super inspiring.
6. What element of writing do you find comes easily? and 7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?
Easiest - Dialogue! I will write a whole scene and it’s just dialogue and then I’m like oh yeah, this conversation needs a location, these characters need to have emotions and they need to have thoughts that they don’t vocalise...
Hardest - The boring bits... When I start writing, I can picture some parts of a scene so clearly in my head, but then I have to write the build up to them, or I have to connect scenes or I have to write what I call “admin scenes” where I have an objective for the scene but I don’t know how to get to it.
Thank you! These were great questions! 😄
