Sihyun can’t even begin to explain how giddy he’d been when he’d gotten Florian for the secret Santa event he was in Vienna for. This was the perfect way to start off a series of gifts he had planned for his best friend which would lead up to his birthday and with the secret Santa excuse he could go above and beyond. The first of these gifts would be a night enjoying the beautiful ballet Le Corsaire at the Vienna State Opera. A night of beautiful music and a gorgeous performance, as told by the reviews, with an excuse for both of them to put on their best outfits. That’s why Sihyun had texted Florian that morning to clear up his schedule for the evening and that Sihyun would not take no for an answer. 

At exactly 6:15PM he steps outside the palace, pulling his coat tight against his chest as the shirt he’s wearing underneath does nothing to stop the cold. He’s constantly suffering in the name of fashion. Once the limo he’s ordered pulls up just a little ways away from where he’s standing Sihyun takes out his phone to send a quick text to Florian, asking him if he’s ready yet. Though he’s in no rush, he’s itching to get inside and drink a nice glass of the champagne he knows is waiting for them in the limo. “I am quite literally freezing my tits off out here for you, Florian. You are so mean to me,” Sihyun sighs dramatically once he spots his friend.

The call with his mother leaves Sihyun shaking in the middle of his living room floor. His voice had been steady as he spoke to her but the second he’d hung up he felt like a child, left alone and uncared for. It’s not an unfamiliar feeling, it’s something old he’s buried deep down manifesting back to haunt him as an adult thanks to a simple phone call. He wants to scream and cry and weirdest of all he wants to laugh. He feels free at knowing he’s finally, finally done with his family, but he feels broken and empty at knowing there’s really no chance of going back now. Even if he wanted this, there was a naive part of him that thought things could fix themselves, an idealistic part of him that thought it would all be okay. But it’s not. 

He opens up his phone again and reads the article over and over again. His father and his business partner finally under fire for all the illegal activities Sihyun knew they were doing. He knows nothing will stick, his father will buy his way out of this most likely and then return home and it will all be the same. But he also knows before he is able to do that, the company will suffer and his mother will fret and the shareholders will back out. He knows he is needed but he’ll never go back. And suddenly, he thinks for Florian. He thinks of how this is affecting him, he who stayed and is still in contact with his father. He knows that this news had to be as earth-shattering for Florian as it is for him, even if for different reasons. He opens his phone up again and before he knows it he’s dialing Florian’s number. No answer. And Sihyun makes a decision then. 

He stands up, showers and dresses before he’s rummaging through his fridge for a bottle of his favorite wine. Florian is not answering his phone but Sihyun knows he’s most likely at home, most likely alone, and most likely needs a friend. And he won’t admit it but right now so does he. But he thinks he just needs Florian because he’s the only one who understands. He calls a cab and before he knows it he’s in front of Florian’s door. He hopes Beau isn’t the one to answer the door as he knocks and waits.

🖼️ a time my muse talked about someone from their past.

With Florian he could talk about his father without fear of the others’ opinion of him changing, of being accused of being guilty of his fathers’ sins. It’s not easy either way but at least he knows that if there’s anyone in the world that understands him it’s Florian. “I had hoped he’d get sent to jail but of course he managed to avoid that. He probably paid off the judge and the prosecutor who took his case.” Though he says it in a light voice there is a weight like a ton of bricks heavy on his chest. “Is that mean of me to say? He’s my father but I just, I wish he’d gotten what was coming for him. To know that he never will makes it all feel hopeless.” 

🔥 a time my muse got caught doing something bad.

He knows they’re not supposed to be sneaking into this part of this French palace, especially with bottles of alcohol in hand as giggles slip past their lips. They’re so young and so careless that the sign which warns them that this area is closed to visitors means nothing to them. It means nothing to Sihyun because he never learned French but he knows enough to know that he shouldn’t enter. But still, he grins at his friend and walks further into the restricted area, the moon shining through the wide windows lighting up the room enough so they could see where they’re going. “Do you know whose palace this is? Is a baby dauphin who died from the plague going to haunt me for breaking into his room?” He asks Flo as he takes a swig from his bottle. It’s then that a flashlight shines upon them and Sihyun’s eyes widen, a deer caught in the headlights. “Oh fuck,” he mumbles as the security guard looks at them with a scowl. And then, “run.”

Sihyun is so sleepy. After a long day of meetings and pretending his skin wasn’t crawling just because he’d been in his father’s presence all day he feels like his whole body has been drained of all its energy. They’re in Paris and he’s so glad that his friend had offered for Sihyun to stay in his house instead of the hotel he’d booked because he really doesn’t think he’d like to be alone right now. “What a day, huh?” He mumbles, moving his body so he’s laying his head on Florian’s lap and soon enough the other starts slowly playing with his hair like Sihyun knew he would. A small smile cracks in his face. Despite the day they’ve had, Sihyun finally starts to feel something other than exhaustion and disgust. Here, with Flo, he feels calm and safe.

It’s been a while since Sihyun has been in France. Last time he can remember it was for a gala or something of that sort hosted by Florian’s father. This time around he’s also hosted by the Agreste’s, he usually always is, but his own father is with him. It’s been a long day of meetings and following his father around even though that was the last thing he had wanted to do at least his best friend had been by his side the whole time. Now he watches said best friend move around the room, getting ready for bed, Flo had said but Sihyun picks up the signs of anxiety. “Come sit down, you’ll burn a hole through this gorgeous rug.” 

He pats the space next to him on the couch, an invitation. He knows how hard all this stuff with their fathers is for Flo, he knows because it’s hard for him too but Sihyun can mask it most of the time. And most of the time Flo can, too. “It was a rough fucking day today, I know,” Sihyun had found a bottle of wine somewhere in the house and poured a glass for himself earlier and now he offers it to Flo. When the other boy sits down wordlessly Sihyun’s heart sinks. He can see how tired Flo is in his eyes, exhausted by who his father wants him to be, exhausted by all he knows and all he doesn’t. Exhausted just like him. Sihyun pats his lap and waits as Flo lays down on the couch with his head on it. Immediately his fingers rake through Flo’s hair, a comforting touch. 

“I know how you feel, I feel it too. I’m probably the only person who does. But you can’t let it kill you Flo. We have to hold on to who we are or else our souls will die and then we’ll be just like them.” Sihyun takes a deep breath, teeth clenching at the thought of becoming like his father. He’d really rather die. “At least we’re not alone. You have me, and I’ll always be here for you. I promise. I’m always here whenever you need me.” He thinks he can get through anything if he has his best friend by his side. Circumstances have intertwined their lives not for the best but at least it brought them together. Because truthfully, without Flo, Sihyun doesn’t know where he’d be. A beat of silence and Sihyun looks down at his lap to find Flo asleep. Finally, some rest for his friend, Sihyun thinks.
