some headcanons for the roles AZ’s Pokemon play around the hotel, including the rest of AZ’s XY team who were definitely present in Z-A

Floette is in charge of the hotel’s gardens, tragically a scrapped relic from Z-A’s concept art. she runs that garden like the navy. her magic can bring dying plants back to full bloom, even if they are out of season. the common modern Floette can make flowers bloom in their wake, but Madame la Fleur Éternelle can command a whole orchard to grow with a single command. like the common Floette according to one Pokédex entry, our Floette can become wrathful if her garden is disturbed. one time she almost unleashed the Light of Ruin on some poor teenager who just wanted to bring a rose to his date. she is the strongest of AZ’s Pokémon after all, and she takes the defense of her king’s new “castle” seriously. she’s been edge regarding AZ’s imminent death, and she guards the hotel fiercely to make sure that no one gets in his way or makes the last few months of his life too stressful.

Lucario was given to AZ by Korrina to be his bodyguard, and I need to think some more about the implications of AZ needing a bodyguard. I like to imagine Lucario as like a magical service dog. his aura abilities can sense when AZ is having a particularly bad chronic pain day, and he can use a few healing moves like heal pulse and life dew to ease his pain. after AZ’s passing, Lucario helps watch over Ansha as her guardian, though he returns to his old friend’s grave every now and then out of a sense of duty.

Golurk is Hotel Z’s muscle. it does most of the heavy labor like moving furniture. it also cleans and bakes for the hotel’s guests when AZ needs help. it also helps out Floette with the gardens, wheeling in soil and fertilizer and building garden plots. I love the gentle giant type, and I like to imagine this giant chunky automaton taking up softer feminine hobbits like knitting. though it can still throw a devastating punch when it needs to, and Zygarde had to intervene before it pulled a Skyrim giant space program on L. when Urbaunie takes over the hotel and definitely doesn’t abandon their position as AZ’s heir to become someone else’s nepo baby, Golurk becomes one of their closest companions and helps them refurbish and modernize the hotel.

Torkoal provides heat for the hotel, and that’s about it. he’s getting up there in age, and he was never much of a battler to begin with. he spends most of the day sleeping, and I can see him sleeping through comically implausible situations. Torkoal can play the role of a therapy dog when needed, and sometimes he rests with AZ to help soothe his back and muscle aches. Torkoal warms up (pun intended) to Naveen as a fellow introvert, and Naveen likes keeping him around as a two-in-one heating pad and companion.

Sigilyph is the hotel’s security and scout, using psychic abilities to see through the surrounding areas like a radar. AZ tasks Sigilyph with scouting rogue megas and watching over Team MZ and using telekinesis to instantly report back. Lida takes a liking to Sigilyph, as his whirlwinds provide the a nice backdrop for her dance routines and it helps her keep cool when she’s working up a sweat.
