And with that...the floors are finally done in one room! We have moved all the stuff back into it plus more because now it’s time to do another bedroom and the hallway. The carpet tear out happens tomorrow. Tonight I have to get all my stuff out of it and fit it into the tiny space we have. And this will be tough because it’s all my clothes and shoes etc. so I’ll truly be living in and around this mess now. I don’t do well with that kind of thing but tough cookies because that’s house restoration life. All the more incentive to get it done, I suppose! And get it right this time. No more messing up on the floors! I’ll stain them entirely by hand if I have to - and I plan to do just that, actually. Anyway. Oh we are having such a discouraging day. The floor dried terribly - it looks worse than this in person. It’s horrid. Stain is not like paint, I am learning. One more coat won’t hide the issues. And there are many, many issues. We can’t sand it all down and start again, we have way too much else to do. And frankly I don’t think we could stand it. How can you fix something like this? If anyone has any ideas what we did wrong and what we can do to fix this floor...please let me know. Floor update: it’s better. Not perfect, but better. I appreciate those of you who took the time to share possible solutions! Here’s what we did after that first disastrous stain-job. We sanded down the uneven darker parts. Which only kind of helped. And then it was all me. 👩🏻‍🎨 I meticulously re-stained the entire floor by hand taking the time to blend it and try and disguise the uneven first coat. Did it totally work? No. But it mostly did. So it’s better than it was! Still not thrilled with it but I require perfection so I’m hard to please. Something else - why is the stain so orange? (Especially considering I dislike that color and prefer browner stains.) It’s because we had to match it to the 100+ year old trim which has a very orange hue. At this point...whatever. 🙄 I just can’t wait for this endless project to be done. After this room we have 2 more bedrooms, one hallway and...a staircase which I’m dreading.
